Re: talk me through taking fairing off

It is attatched to the top yoke, but you can get it off if need be, if you're drilling then just unplug the connector and then remove the top yoke with the lock still bolted on.

ahh right.so the ignition wire has a connector on it to allow it to be disconnected from the barrel?

thanks

The wire stays attatched to the barrel/switch part, but you can unplug it under the tank iirc.

(its normally under the tank on the naked, might be inside LHS fairing with the subloom on the S)

ahh right excellent.so if I were to buy a new yoke, i could dettach the wires, take the barrel out of the yoke, and then attach back into the new yoke and attach the wires again?

this is proving to be a very interesting project. cant wait
do you have any pictures of your bike?

thanks

That pic of the gixxer yokes and spindle should show you how the lock is attatched to the top yoke, gixxer and SV are pretty much exactly alike in that respect.

(so much so that withe gixxer front end you can use your original lock and the steering lock still works.)

yeah i think i get the idea with the top yoke and ignition.and its good to hear that I can still have a steering lock once the gsxr front end is in :).can you use the same spindle and front wheel with the gsxr forks? or do you need a gsxr wheels and spacers and spindle etc?

thanks

Re: talk me through taking fairing off

Take it from the top...

SRAD top yoke
SV ignition switch + lock
Twinworks top bearing
SRAD stem + bottom bearing
Forks (lots fit)
mudguard... quite a few fit ... mines from TLS
SRAD calipers
SRAD/TL/busa wheel
SRAD spindle .. no spacers required as the axle basically spaces itself when tightened.

You'll find quite a lot of stuff is recycled through a few models, TLS, TLR, busa, SRAD 600/750, I think the tokico 4 pots were used on the ZX9R as well.
Later forks can fit too, but not a lot original SV stuff does.

Most of this is second hand from northwind, big thanks to him for his advice to me.
