Paul, my only concern about progressives is you are a big lad and might end up having to put in so much pre-load into the springs that you end up having limited travel? Now I may talking ********, but it might be worth talking to the progressive spring manufacturers first to see what they say? Don't Hagon do linear and progressive springs - perhaps they could give un-biased information?

Ohhh and Y-C, come and explain why progressives would work. :D

15w.... should be nice after all this work :)

springs, oil and gsxr shock. It'll just need some new tyres (avon storms ) and then I'll have run out of mainstream mods... I'll have to start messing with gearing and get a stronger chain (and a scottoiler!)...

On the days where I'm working away and have nothing to do, I end up sitting on the net posting absolute guff on here and spending money on bits for the bike instead of bits for the house.

And as for treating this thread like a chatroom, I might as well have given you a shout on the phobile

lol I've prolly dropped him right in it now. He's always given me sterling advice and I've probably made it sound like he's told me exactly what I should and shouldn't go for. YC just explained the difference and I said something along the lines of "oh so progressives are generally better for everyday riding like I do then?".

I don't take every single thing he says as gospel. Just most of it  I've emailed hagon, maxton & hyperpro to ask them what products they can recommend and at what prices... dingle tweeks got back to me as well:

Hi Paul,

Both types of springs are uprated but the Hyperpro are progressive wheras Ohlins are more likely to be linear. Neither manufacturer gives a choice of spring rate, but both willsuit you better than the original springs. I personally would favour the Hyperpro as it comes as a kit complete with oil and a full set up guide. (and they just so happen to cost a hundred quid)

I'll see what the big 3 say to my email

Thats crap... They need to give string weight if they are linear... sigh.

dingle twinkles (see also, demon tweeks)

Hagon's just got back to me asking to confirm if mine is an S or a sport, so I told them 'S' "and by the way, do you do a linear kit.... could you advise" etc

thanks for all the replies so far guys, it can only help me to get my head around what I'm trying to achieve

An S or a Sport??

Re: the shocking truth about shock absorbers... (noob questions as asked by myself)

sports only came in from 2006 is what I explained, it's an 's' as standard and a sport is an identical bike with 2 extra bits = lower fairing and seat cowl (where the 's' has a pillion seat and just the upper fairing). apart from that no difference whatsoever.
