SK complains about cyclist? who knew?) It would also do a lot more good as several laws would actually not be broken anymore rather than the cyclist just ignoring SK and doing the same thing tomorrow - he did by the way I saw him

And Sophie, yeah bring it on - bet it will be freezing tonight otherwise

While you were riding alongside him but on the pavement? :p

I'd have said exactly the same thing. But I wouldn't have bothered to push it.

I have ridden my motorbike through roads that have been 'blocked off'.

And what again? Sort of... lol

I just thought it was a stupid phrase, and now I'm baffled :p

You said the phrase meant "so no-one is allowed to tell anyone else what they are doing is 'wrong'*."
It doesn't, it means sort your own mistakes out first before you criticise others.

Interesting, I think that's an implied interpretation (due to natural human retaliatory behaviour to criticism) myself, but I see where you are coming from. I would assume 'without sin' means 'without ever having committed a sin' rather than 'without having any current sins' (whatever a 'current' sin might be :p).

I still think it's wrong as phrases go. Why should people not let try to change things they see as wrong? That's like cutting off the world's nose to spite its face - in the grand scheme of things, you want everything to be 'right' not 'wrong'. So any effort to increase the number of 'right's versus the number of 'wrong's is a good thing. The number of 'wrong's currently attributed to the person driving the change surely has nothing to do with the 'wrong' at hand? It may stink that someone who is currently 'doing wrong' can tell you that you are 'doing wrong' but what matters at the end of the day? Your pride and/or humility, or the number of 'right's versus the number of 'wrong's in the world?

I do mean the universal 'you' here, not you Stu ;)

You can never change the past, only the future so I read it as sort your own fualts out first.

Your going to do far more good actually making a change re your own faults than just complaining at someone else who might ignore you

Having had a cyclist ride into me the other day and a torrent of abuse for having the audacity to be on the pavement when he hit me. I can understand where SK is coming from. Yes all road users ignore certain rules that they do not like. Most bikers have a tendency to misunderstand the meaning of NSL etc.

However, we do mostly know the rules of the road. We have experienced the idiots who run red lights, and know the dangers that idiots present to us by virtue of our vulnerability outside of 4 wheel cages.

I am now firmly of the belief that cyclist must carry 3rd party insurance. However, if the idiot who ran into me the other day is anything to go by. they would ignore that rule. what if he had hurt me. Incapable of working etc. I be screwed if he had not got the where with all to adequately compensate me for lost salary etc. however, if as a result of running into me he had fallen under a car, you can bet he would have been straight to the solicitors to attempt to sue me.

Haha, well that's a good point. But what if you committed a murder? You can't fix it...but it would seem strange for that person - if that was the only fault he had committed - to be considered 'without sin' (and able to cast the stone ;)).

Completely agree. But it doesn't mean you shouldn't do both... ;)

Btw the way you put it makes it biased towards fixing your own faults, same as "no point p*ssing about with your own problems, when you could spend time making a real impact in other people's lives, and helping them shape a better future for themselves and others"... ;)

Agreed, but SK just shouted at the guy, OK so he got him to push his bike, but it's hardly devoting your life like Mother Theresa ;)
