Oh come on... theres got to be mileage in the wooden airbox idea. Can you make a plane out of cheesium?

Ha ha, I tried it... But I was only goin to use wood as it was easy. Unfortunately there aint as much room under the tank as I was informed there was :( So it'll be rubber. Might manage to Increase height by a mere 10mm. Guess that will help, might be enough.

Ive got another air box (£19) so im going to look at putting holes into the top of the airbox to allow more air in there, it'll still go into the filter so happy days. Ill lose ram air effect but tbh I dont spend enough time about 120mph for that to matter

Cheers

Chop it, use some waxed cardboard to hold it, then use fibreglass to make it permanent.

P.s with airbox volume you're not really removing a choke point you're changing resonance characteristics. If you're going to drill it then you might as well just remove the top of the airbox entirely.

Really?

Even a small hole like maybe an inch? Problem is (you might be able to set me straight) is that its only got a 7L air box... I think the general rule is 10x engine capacity, which means the Rotax engines suffer from a slight lack of air box pressure, If I added a Litre (or more capacity) and dont put any holes in will I get any gains? will resonance be left in tact and the extra pressure help the engine breath better?

More pressure because you take a litre out of 7 and you are left with 6/7 of the air, take 1 litre out of a 8 litre box you have 7/8 of the air in the space so higher pressure.

If you can set me straight then ace-icles

It's hard to say, and I don't think this laptop will handle floworks!

However, cutting a hole will certainly affect the flow, I would take a flying guess that under the tank is below atmospheric pressure at speed, meaning you would lose power at speed. As well as the near total loss of ram air gains.

What about some rubber flappers over the holes? Best of both worlds perhaps.

You mean have holes and have a weak spring valve that allows more flow at high RPM, When the air is being pulled through the hardest? I have thought about this, Would that work? Would that help?

Dunno. You know about computers, get a pair of pressure transducers and find out :-P

Instinct says yes it will help. Logic doesn't say how much by!

Then I need a Exup valve and im sorted ha ha, best of both worlds, and lots of complex things...

I got another air box on its way like I said (I think) so I can have a play with variable airflow. Should be interesting work :D
