Re: Red Dwarf

they shouldnt bother with all the fancy angles and trying to make it more film like. It worked before because it looked a bit cruddy

Yeah , that was the charm with the old ones , really cruddy "Special" FX , good old BBC camerawork and funny one liners . Reminded me of "The HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy" ...... these reworks don`t have the same ambience due to times moving on .

The problem with that idea is: The Phantom Menace.

Remember that debacle? You watched it & it was terrible. Then, if you're like me, you watched it a further two times at the flicks (just in case it was you that was wrong). Then when you realised that it did indeed stil suck, you went back to the flicks to see Attack of the Clowns & the other one...y'know...just in case.

i watched it, enjoyed it, and will do the same tonight. okay there was no canned laughter, no lego backdrops but the lines were there and the crew were there.
the only thing missing is holly.

Re: Red Dwarf

I thought it was poor although I think that was pretty much to be expected, they don't seem to realise that much of the charm of the series came from the very low budget feel it had which matched perfectly to the highly pessimistic view of the future. In Star Trek Enterprise is an elegant and sleek ship with a warp drive giving it the capability to glide between the stars, Red Dwarf on the other hand has 600 conventional cylinders allowing it to reach just half the speed of light.

The brilliant one liners were all missing as well which was particularly highlighted by showing some of the best episodes straight after which despite having seen many times still crack me up whereas I barely had a single smile at the new episode.
