Just had the guys from the recovery services give me a shocker on the cost of recovery.

£260  and another £200 id I want it returned to me. I'm in the wrong business.

So, just calling up my car mechanic to see if he knows someone with a van/truck in order to get it back at a reasonable cost.

otherwise, I'll have to see if I can hire a transit at short notice - and some muscle.

I'd discuss that with them if i was you. Was it a police call out because the bike was on the Motorway causing an obstruction or did the officer ask you about recovery and you asked him to arrange it. I'm pretty sure there are agreed fees for police recovery and given the fee for them recovering/seizing an uninsured vehicle is £150 I'd be surprised if the basic recovery is much more than that (doesn't sound like they used any "specialized" equipment to drag it onto the truck). If you're not happy call Kent police and ask to speak to their recovery manager.

Problem is on a Motorway they only have 30 minutes to get there, if not the police call theirs anyhow.

Ginger 1: that is exactly the place...

Red Herring : Well I did explain to the highway traffic that I'm a member of the AA and they arranged for the AA to come and get the bike, but then the AA recovery said it'll take him 45 minutes to get to site, and so the officer in chanrge squashed that idea and said that they will call there own recovery service.

Will give them a call now then to see if that is a justifable charge.

I have now upgraded my AA roadside to relay for £24.50p, and will be getting the "silver fox" back tomorrow as it takes 24hrs to process the upgrade.

I wasn't happy and phone Kent Police Recovery Manager and they informed me that all motorbike recovery charges are £150, then £10 per night thereafter.

£250 is for cars/vans/lorries.

He said that he'll phone the recovery company, and advise them of the correct fee...and that I'll only pay hte above.

Thanks Red Herring for the pointer there.

No problems, that's £100 towards the repairs then!
