Shell, take it as a positive.

Yes, you can't really apply for the dog position, but you do have the possible driving/bike job to look forward to with the advanced driving course.

Also, your Insp has just told you what you need to do to get the dog job, if you want it in future. You need to get yourself out on a couple of days with a dog handler (on off days), to get the experience & show you can do it. From there, the handler will probably end up recommending you, and the next time a vacancy comes up, it's all a little easier.

I'd personally be thanking the Insp for telling me how to go about getting that job in the future. :)

Positive from negative - job jobbed. :) Keep yer chin up hun. :)

Luckily we no longer work on detections :) thank god !! So pressure is off a little.

My last Sgt (just left) was into our welfare in a big way and she wanted us to take courses that went with our career path hence she put me in for the advanced (top chick). Not many bosses are like her but we lost her :(

I am out of ticket on alot of courses, so hard to get them refreshed :( specially when there are as little as few bobbies covering a HUGH area

I know but I still feel deflated, I had weighed up the pros and cons of dog handling on both work and home life and decided it's what I wanted to do :(

Grrrr I will never leave response which is like the bottom of the pile ! Still least in a month I get to respond faster ! lol

Got 3 books to learn from cover to cover, highway code, road signs and roadcraft :( and a huge file of info so looks like I need to get my head in some books, and speaking with guys who been on the advanced I need to know else I will fail before they put me in a car.

Thanks for all ya advice guys but on a good note I will be razzing around wales in the imminent future !

Are you already response and pursuit trained so this is going to be like a traffic advanced course?

When I did my three week reponse driving, I also had the book "human aspects of driving" and it was a nightmare. The most boring thing I have ever read. Ever. Ever.

Yup already response and initial pursuit, this is the 4 week advanced :) means I am the car that takes over in a pursuit and get to drive the slightly better vehicles.

But the Road Crime Team (bike team) is dual role and you have to pass advanced bike and car so I would be half way there if I applied of there was ever a vacancy.

Don't forget you already know people on the bike team, and get on well with them. So they could also recommend you. :)

Lol bring your mates for a cuppa Shell! Look out for your N. Wales 'colleagues', apparently they don't like police training vehicles cos they cannot book em for speeding :D

Great news about the course hun, enjoy it!
