It was meant in jest you know...perhaps I should have found an appropriate smiley...

sorry but i see it as another case of us law abiding citizens are penialised again, the only people who carry knifes are the criminals as they dont care, its like guns i dont know what idiot came up with the idea of lets take all the guns off the law abiding citizens then its just the criminals left with them??? oh well nice to know the local chavs can break into my house knowing full well the only thing their likely to be confronted with is me with a bit of colourfull language an a feather duster.

The counter argument is to imagine legalised guns and knives. Anyone breaking into your house knows the chances are that you will be armed, so they carry arms too, probably bigger and better than yours. So you end up with exactly the same situation; the criminal still has the advantage. Only more people end up dead.

yeah, I realised it was meant in jest, it's just one of those little bug bears I have.

And MKZ - There is no law against keeping knives in your own house!

You don't have to look very far for that scenario, fortunately they are now trying to copy our NHS to compensate.:D

Hang on why the hell would you break into a house with a possibly armed occupier?

Old Granny Smith with a stubby smith and wesson isn't such an easy target for a crackhead on a dark night any more.

Guns create a level field, at the moment brute strength and ignoring the law wins any confrontation.

sorry but i cant see that, i know the majority of criminals are a bit thick but they are not going to put themselves in the line of fire, yes you will still have people breaking into houses but they will do it when your out instead, would you rather someone break in when your kids are in bed armed or would you prefer they broke in when the kids are at school and your at work because they know if your there you might be armed and might shoot the little scrotes

i would rather face someone with a gun in their hand and a gun in my hand as opposed to them being armed an me not,

EDIT: sorry for the thread derail

+1

Especially with the pitifull state of affairs we have now with "there there, we know best" attitude.

A quote comes to mind about those sacrificing liberty for temporary safety deserving neither. And also one about helplessness not being the same as safety.

And lets not forget, shooting guns is great fun.
