Re: SV650S to Yamaha R1 - Too big a jump, or play it safer and get Gixxer 750?

but none of them really shocked me, the SV is alot better when not restricted but even then it winds down eventually. Fazer was alright, and sounds awesome with scorpion pipes, but not my kind of bike (at least not yet) didnt like the sitting postion and i didnt like the gear shift, the detuned R6 engine was a nice touch though. Mine is ok on 33 but i cant wait to get it off!!! 214 days and counting. |

Well, further to what has already been said, my non - restricted SV is more than fast enough for me, the roads and the law. But if it were me, and I could justify the petrol and insurance costs I'd get an R1, because they look amazing, and if I had the 750 I'd be thinking "How much better would the R1 be". But test rides seem sensible. And also when I got the SV, after a complete dung-heap Kawasaki Eliminator, I kept finding myself in flappy bumhole territory, because with a fairing I was much faster than I thought, and I wasn't used to a disc rear brake, which I kept locking for the first month or so. Since your heart seems to be saying R1, I'd go there, but de-restrict the SV (will also make it easier to sell) and get used to that first.

They look pretty tidy in RL, there's one parks in Trinity St, (boring grey tho!). Maybe when my hair starts turning grey!!! Though I like the R1200s?!? Not on the same field as proper superbikes, but distinctive, and sounds like an old radial-engined plane. Let us know if your passing through dorch, if I'm free I'd be up for a ride!
