Re: Nanny state restrictions - what would you do?
Just as long as you obey the rules you will have nothing to hide and therefore nothing to worry about. The authorities will take care of everything.Run along now and dont worry your silly heads about it all. There there.

Re: Nanny state restrictions - what would you do?
Most people would do nothing... frog in a pot of boiling water syndrome and all that. We'd bitch about it and threaten to emigrate and some would, but apathy would reign and we'd just go along with it, take the cash incentive and trade in our old banger for a new model with a (no doubt cleverly hidden) GPS tracking device.
Tracking technology is way ahead of what we experience in our Tom Tom's... some regions of the world have been using anti-theft tracking for years. I drove a hire car in South Africa 10 years ago that had a well-hidden cut-out switch that you had to push within the 1st 1.5 km of driving or the engine would cut out (even if you were in the middle of a busy junction -- it happened!!). If you did manage to overcome the cut-out switch the vehicle owner / police would be able to ring up and find out exactly where you were within minutes. The insurance companies offered massive discounts to those who fitted them to their cars and lots of people paid for them to be fitted. They sell it now for bikes -- I saw a sign above the urinal while I was taking a slash at the services last week. "Text alert as soon as youe vehicle starts moving..." etc etc. I'd buy a jet-pack and risk life n limb that way!! |
Re: Nanny state restrictions - what would you do?
If it was a 40 limit with GPS big brother watching you 24-7 if you dared go above 40, I'd give up the bikes for good. Whats the point - you'd fall asleep at 40 on a bike - I do.... No doubt they'd put a speed limiter on a push bike, and tax you to use one in 20 years time... dirty rotten crooks they are anyways
But I can see all future cars coming out the dealership restricted to a poxy 70mph or less in a couple of years... Easily done by accessing the ECU, and activating the speed limiter function. Then locking the ECU with special access codes, which only main dealer technicians would be allowed to use. MAN, Renault, DAF, and Mercedes all use access code locked ECU's now to stop back street mechanics and tuners from upping the speed limiter settings.... but they can get access to uprate the engine power, and torque.. They did it to trucks back in 1988 (1st was 60mph, then put down to 58, then put down to 56, and now most dealers won't calibrate them to above 55.5 unless you bribe the fitters...). Most people have satnavs too, either built in to their car or a solo unit, so it'd be easy to see who'd been playing with the limiter, as some units record your highest speed:mad::mad::mad: like some new bikes too recently (The 2009 onwards triumph st1050....) |
