Re: Is it worth buying an airbed?
Since there seems to be quite a lot of scepticism, believe me the Thermarest mattresses really do work.
When I first came across them in an outdoor store (abroad) they had a demo arrangement set up with a few cobbles on the shop floor and you could try the mattress. I got one there and then. You don't think something an inch and a bit thick could be comfy, but they are. If they didn't live up to the reputation it would have been shouted about by now. I don't know how good the "copies" are, I'd guess something like Vango would be fine, Gelert probably not equivalent quality (the Gelert similar pillow I had lasted 2 seasons then started leaking). I once came across a Canadian chap camping in France, and he had an extra thick Thermarest for Canadian winter camping  but I haven't seen the equivalent for sale in the UK. |

airbeds do take the heat away from your body, cos its not a thin layer of air that you can warm up, its a 6inch layer so maybe if you have a very large body?. but if it's warm weather it's not going to be a problem is it. |

I'll ask the wife, she's only 9 1/2 stone, or maybe I keep the double air bed warm enough for both of us. I do radiate heat, I'm one of these people whose hands are always really warm, most people I shake hands with feel cold to me. |
