Back in 1996 myself, my wife and our two sons (4 & 9 at the time) came to Calgary. It was December 4th, 2.00 a.m. in the morning, -35 degrees. We had not jobs, no accomodation, no friends or relatives here, and had never visited before.
I now own my own company, my wife is manager of a large retail store, and both our sons have good jobs, so it can work if you are determined!

Bleddy hell, thats what I call having balls!
Obviously you didn't just think, 'I know, lets move there', surely?
We're looking into things with care, and have put around a six month estimate to plan what we want to do for our future.

If you had to sell up to buy something bigger anyway, and you looked beyond the box of just upsizing, for the chance of a better life for your kids, live simply, rather than keeping up with the Jones and having an average type of house, in an average street, which you paid through the nose for to keep....would you up sticks, feck orf abroad, if the opportunity came around?

Without hesitation

Yes, we did a lot of homework (it took nearly nine months to get our visas)
It also takes a lot of commitment to stick it out through the hard times. We have known people that have moved here after us but have rented their house out back in the UK. At the first hurdle they took the easy option and returned back "home" (as soon as we arrived here we called Calgary "home")
