'It's beautiful but I am not a fan of the design.' ! Seems a bit of a contradiction. How can somebody find a building beautiful if they don't like the design ?! Hasn't a building ( or a motorcycle for that matter ) that is considered beautiful been made that way because of the design ?

I think he meant to say it's striking rather than beautiful. They certainly grab your attention.

Today's random pushbike ride took me to Bayston Hill quarry. It's a Tarmac site. The stone here was used to resurface Silverstone.

Yes, striking sounds more appropriate. They are probably quite nice inside and worth far more than I could afford !
