Some bikes that require a spacer above the springs to adjust the preload, this could be because they have no adjusters as standard or they may be fitted with springs which are a different length to the standard springs, (Progressives, for example), whichever is the case you calculate how much you need on a per bike basis, the rider will sit on the bike and you see how much suspension travel is used up, (sag), then you decide, using a formula dependant on Lunar position, riders shoe size and grandmothers maiden name*, how much sag it would be desirable to have and fit a suitable spacer above the spring.
* This is not true, it's really done by entering a pact with the Devil and a secret Druidic incantation. |

Generlly the new springs are longer than the standard ones, so you can just cut down the spacer you take out. Job done.

Some are some aren't, if they are then you can as Rictus says just chop down the original spacer tube, if not then you can add washers, but I find it easier to use some tube cut to the relevant size, IIRC you need tube ~38mm in diameter for an SV, I use plastic pipe.

I've got a feeling this is going to be one of those shows that you would pay to go and see
:-k now I was going to do a protest banner, think I will change that to "cheap entry to the best comedy show since Laural and Hardy". Yes I think this might turn out to be a bit of an earner here   8) |
