Yes BUT............look how close those canopies were, a couple of feet apart. I know the tailplanes were a single on the F5 and double on the Tomcat but they are also very tall and would have torn chunks out of each others fueselage or worse still torn them both off. Mind you that would have been quite funny. Anyway I'm leaving before someone notices how geeky we sound.........too late! |
Yeah...anything is possible.
The F-14 is a surprisingly flawed aircraft in some respects. |

Was filmed from a US Navy ship and was quite amazing/scary. Will try to find it. Faulty fuel pumps was a big problem. |

Mad!!!!!!!! Just gone through the sound barrier and looked to bank right, only to do something to make it go bang.
Take it the pilot never had a chance. I'd still risk it!!!! Any day!!! |
JESUS!
That's the one. How he survived that is just amazing. I read somewhere that the pilot had destroyed 3 F-14's in a 6 month period and was in a lot of trouble after that. He did a supersonic flyby when not authorised. Obviously thought he was Maverick. |
  Holy crap!
|
The US navy has pulled the F-14 out of front line duties. Age, not able to bomb and Flankers a big issue.
Let's see what Iran do with 'em. :D I'm sure we will find out soon enough. |

F22 had loads of problems i think. I remember reading books on them when they were still being designed back in the early 80's (Technology on the planes was still more advanced than most computer systems/game systems today!!!) Head up displays etc..
F14 is still one of my favourite planes ever. Just something about that shape that says to me "im a plane, but im the muhammed Ali of planes" F15, F16, F18 etc just didn't do anything for me. |
