There's an old saying around here, probably some of you have heard it too before, that goes something like "from this water I shall not drink". I may sound harsh by saying this, but until some of you have effectively dealt with phobias / anxiety / stress related problems, please refrain from passing derogatory comments. If you have nothing nice to say, stfu. As for the "fat cow", yes, she's in the wrong to blame the NHS for her "illness", and I can see her binging more and more each time to force them to do something. As they won't do, she'll get depressed and binge some more. Anyone heard of vicious circles before? Yes, she'll need to break the circle. No, calling her fat cow won't help. Rant over (for now). |

There are a number of things that can upset that balance, but I fail to see how it could be anything other than physical illness, or mental issues. Shall we open the debate considering if a mental issue constitues a medical reason for actions? Quote:

There are a lot of assumptions in this thread. I've been told before on this forum that I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about. But some of the previous comments are really taking the biscuit. |
Re: Fat cow
not really sure about this metabolic rate stuff, if i carried a big weight around all day i would use more energy than normal not less so would remain thin, on the other hand if my mouth is bigger than my bottom more food could be forced in than could get out. there are tablets to take which stop fat absorbson but have a nasty side effect anal leakage its called

How quickly you put food in your mouth does have an impact on this (obviously), but it's a chemical process. The tablets you talk about increase metabolic rate :) |

Re: Fat cow
I'm trying to see how it could be any more obviously a psychological problem... It's easy to call "greed" but I don't see any trace of that... Maybe at the start, but not now.
So, psychological problem. But it's so easy to say "Pull yourself together" or "show some self control" in that case, isn't it? But you see, that's the problem when your head isn't working right, what makes sense to you makes no sense to others and likewise, what makes sense to others is just madness to you. Course, that doesn't mean it's a simple thing to fix, far from. But what she describes there from the previous treatment sounds sadly familiar to a friend of mine, who developed a drinking problem off the back of a bout of severe depression. He was treated for the drinking- and it worked brilliantly- but the cause wasn't fixed, so he was released from the residential care place and 6 months later, turned back to drink for the exact same reason he'd started the first time. There's no point in treating the symptoms- if this woman's care got her down in weight, that's great, but she put it straight back on and no wonder, as the underlying problem was still there. You see the exact same thing with smoking- people start smoking to help them deal with stress, or anxiety. They get treatment to stop smoking, great! But they still have the original problem, and now they've lost their chemical crutch. This woman turns to food instead of cigarettes. And since she's eating herself to death, she has more reason to suffer anxiety attacks than most, so it's a vicious circle. |
