A right ugly fat b@&tard of a bike. Never liked the Busa regardless of how fast it can go.

Oh it stops aright.... :smt045

You do all realise that it is that "ugly" I mean shape because of its aerodynamics... It's got the lowest drag coefficient of any bike on the road (road... not GP bikes).

She recently passed her test too, and rides his XT660 when he's not using it for commuting.

Oh dear what a pity, the boy's taken...

... I'll just have to make do with his bike then. ;):smt077

Whatcha mean? I didn't know you all knew about my test ride!

I came away thinking it's not that exciting, I don't have to have one, but I haven't been looking at anything else but on ebay since :-dd.

Agreed, yes the owner rider's a craftsman.

It's not massively less than many others that are less ugly, the front end is an exercise in styling much like a streamliner train- the huge hump and flat sides do more for reducing drag, but most drag still comes from the rider and the ragged rear end. The Blackbird comes very close to achieving the same and it's purty.

GP bikes aren't especially aerodynamic, less so than the Busa in fact, it's been shown to be pretty much a blind alley for bikes to push drag reduction to that extent.

And isn't a side effect of bikes with 'dustbin like' fairings (which are very aerodynamic) that they crash at the slightest hint of a crosswind? ;)

When I went with Pete to Bruntingthorpe for the "200mph.org" thing, guys were removing mirrors, taping their leathers tight around their arms & legs, all that sort of thing, because when you get to 180mph plus, aerodynamics have a big effect. In fact, just removing the mirrors can give 3-5 mph.

One guy had "fairing" over the bars to push the air over his arms, and he had a weird screen that allowed him to have a larger "cockpit" area. He topped out at 209mph average over 2 runs. Pete managed 199.8 on his first run, and 202.2 on his second, so he got his "200 mph" certificate....

Interesting watching the lengths people go to, Loads of carbon body work, carbon wheels etc. There was some bloke on a turbo'ed ZX12 who averaged 212 mph, with his mirrors etc on. He just turned up, did 1 attempt (2 runs) and left, after blowing everybody else away. No faffing about with screens, bodywork and his leathers. Real cool that was....

Busa? If you are concerned about the aesthetics then you really are missing the point with that bike and it really is not something you should ever consider. It was built with a purpose and one that it addresses very well indeed. Not for me but I do appreciate what they are about.End of discussion.
