Re: What the hell is wrong with people ?
DCI Philip Owen, of Wigan CID, who led the police investigation into Jordon's death, told the inquest that PCSOs `are not trained to the same extent as police officers so wouldn't have been taught how to deal with a situation like this'.
Mr Ganderton said: "You don't have to be trained to jump in after a drowning child." This says it all really, 2 adults who refused to help a child. No matter what excuse people come up with, it is not enough. The 2 officers ALLOWED the child to die. |
Re: What the hell is wrong with people ?
On Police camera crash car chase the other week there was footage of a lad who had fallen into a river beside a bar/club. There was in excess of 100 people just watching and jeering at the police as they tried to get him out, which they did - allbeit drowned.
So where was all this 'anyone would go in to rescue someone drowning' that night? |
Re: What the hell is wrong with people ?
"Stood by watching". If there was a kid in the water and they couldn't see them, then surely the smart thing to do is to watch, and hopefully see them and go to help, rather than flailing about at random in the water just on the off chance... Especially when you arrive on the scene so late that the kid's either keeping themselves afloat (and hopefully can be seen) or is almost certainly dead. The facts are that if they'd dived right in, and somehow by pure blind luck found the kid, they'd have found a corpse. Would you have risked your own life on those odds?
It's a very sad story. But it's also sad that so many people are going off on knee-jerk reactions based on what seems to be a very inaccurate depiction of events. Here's another story with a different picture of events: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/m...er/7007081.stm This seems to be widely corroborated- so much for "did nothing". |

Oh aye, and I'm always suspicious of parents who're so vocal in condemnation of everyone else involved... "We must blame them and cause a fuss, Before somebody thinks of blaming us!" An 8 and a 10 year old collecting tadpoles unsupervised? That's not too clever. I'm totally against the trend to wrap kids in cotton wool, but there's limits.
