Are you quite sure about that?

What about intimidation in the workplace? A biker in full gear, with helmet on (and possibly a tinted visor) can be pretty intimidating to someone behind a desk full of cash.

Catch22 again........People can be intimidated by fat people, Large people, hells angels, other who chose to wear clothing that fully cover themselves.

I think its not so bad to remove a helmet. I have never been asked at a petrol station (off lisence yes) but if i was, i would make a meal out of it. I still get my petrol, and I'm not a customer waiting nor am I the person at the till now having to deal with disgruntled customers who are standing for ages in the queue because the person at the till asked me to remove my helmet.

Sorry, but I fail to see how it's a catch 22.

If you know you are likely to intimidate someone, and do not have just cause for doing so, you are in the wrong if they feel intimidated.

Religion is the only "just cause" I can think of.

Here's one for you...

Next time you're told to remove your lid, explain you're a muslim. When they say that has no baring on the request, tell them that the Qur'an requires you to dress "modestly" and usually that means a jilbab or abaya, however, wearing those whilst on the bike means you can't ride properly. So the helmet forms part of your "modest" clothing.

(NB. The modest clause of the Qur'an applies spefically to women, not men).

Pressed the pay at pump button put the nozzle in, nothing came out for 2 mins. I look over at the kiosk the woman is signalling to me to take me helmet off, i decided not to, i put the nozzle back in the slot and rode off to the next one.

I actually do that all the time ... I only take my gloves off to open the petrol cap, then whilst I'm filling, I'm undoing the strap on my lid. I replace the pump, lock the petrol cap, then I stick keys in pocket, remove lid, stuff gloves in lid, walk into store. Doesn't take long. But I do get a few funny looks from time to time as I am waiting for the pump operator to authorise the pump as I'm sat there on the bike with helmet still on.

Yeah pretty sure - it's been a while since I've done any law stuff but if there wan't a sign at time of entering into a contract (ie.e accepting their offer of fuel in exchange for $$$) then you can't be held liable.

The price on the sign i.e. 100.1 a litre is actually not legally binding but in law open to haggle - that price is their view on how much a litre of petrol is worth.

Not sure where you stand legally when arguing the toss that you think the petrol you've just put into your tank is worth 10p a litre though.....

Do me a favour!

Then the person shouldn't be working in a damn petrol station.

Jesus what kind of world do we live in!

Rant over.

I got asked to take my lid off at a new texaco round the corner from me.
Quite happily took it off, and then tried to pay again with my balaclava on.
Funny thing is, they didnt tell me to take that off.

I've a flip lid and have never been asked to remove it. The petrol station I use most is a pay at pump.

I would be happy to take my lid off, this is not an issue for me. Leaving aside the religious and the security aspects. I think not removing a full face is rude at best, why make a big deal out of it. Many riders I know are very intimidating looking like Orcs on a bad hair day, get to know them and they just big softies. We need to be working on changing the publics perception of us, agressively challenging them over petty things is only going to confirm their opinions.

I know this maybe hypocritical but being asked to put it on the floor I would not tolerate. Some numbskull (me most likely) is going to kick it and the floor isn't clean. I would continue to use the place and my lid would be placed on the counter, wet days would be a particular joy, I would politely offer my apologies, ask for a cloth wipe my lid then the counter down. I would hope that in doing so I could get the message over without any aggrevation.
