Ubuntu 10.10. Free and runs like lightning on my 4 year old laptop that I purchased for £30.

At the end of the day, its a computer - Doesnt matter what people think of it so long as you are happy and it does the job.

Macs are overpriced to my mind. I would consider one if they were a similar price to a PC, and you could upgrade them easily. My Mrs loves them, but then she is a muppet when it comes to technology (and I still end up fixing her mac when it goes wrong).
