It was partly fuel in the oil, leaking past a dodgy float needle / seal, already in there from the previous owner. That wasn't the main issue as it confused diagnosis as it has similar symptoms to the main problem... the stator going. Fuel in the oil makes the bike become increasingly erratic and then stall after about half an hour of warming up. The oil gets hot and turns the fuel to vapour. All goes back to normal once cooled down. Similar symptoms for the stator. Once the oil is hot all the coils get hot and the resistance goes up. Couple that with a stator that is already just above the recommended tolerance and once hot the charging system fails, spark becomes erratic and it stalls and won't start. All goes back to normal once cold. Couple that with a charging system that already struggles to put enough power back to the battery and you have a bike that can handle half hour of riding at a time and then trys to play buckaroo on corners etc before giving up totally. Reg/rec is now wired straight to the battery bypassing all the high resistance wiring and plugs that Suzuki sends it through and the battery is now receiving a healthy 14.5v when idling. |

i had totally forgot about this till i was down the bevvy park for a little stroll. took these pics as i thought members would like to see how much people in Kirkcaldy love motorcycling. the beveridge park used to be a race track. the images are of the memorial to those that lost their lives. as far as i know Knockhill was built to replace the Beveridge track and make racing safer.
