managed to get an engine with around 5000 miles and a 3 month warranty on it, seems to be running fine but also seems more hesitant to start than the old one, although that might be the weather having changed so much since september, cos there seems to be no problem when the engine is warmed. ill be checking the oil whenever i lube the chain from now on, which is about once a week still can't believe what i did...just too used to my cars having level lights, and then when my first bike had one i just thought all bikes did and mistook the icon on screen. anyway, live and learn so glad to have the bike back i'm putting up with frostbite in my fingers  |
Re: Pointy died on me.
It's an expensive and painful mistake, and one we've heard of a few times, I'm sorry that you found out the hard way, and I'll not join in the criticism - it may be a fundamental error but enough people have made it, such that it's clearly an area which isn't made entirely plain to new or inexperienced owners.
I just hope that others will learn something from your experience. This has been said before, but I think it merits repetition: Check the oil regularly, the oil window is part of the instrumentation every bit as much as the clocks and warning lights are. |
