Well done BA, if he was over the limit and clearly not in control of his vehicle then you may have just saved his life - or an innocent passer-by's! Chances are if he got away with this one he may be tempted to drink drive again and getting caught might be what he needs.

On the 2 pint debate - (is that domestic or export strength), I think it can affect you judgement, be it impairing it or just that you'll take more risks thinking you are on top of your game. 2 quick pints will affect your reactions and confidence. It's not worth taking the chance and I wouldn't mind reducing the limit from 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood to around 50. This would allow you to ride home after work even if you have had the lunchtime pint or 2. It would be nice to have easy access to a a breath analyser though for reassurance. If you feel too rough you shouldn't drive/ride even if you are under the limit though.

True. I treat the limit as what you're allowed as 'left over' from the night before, rather than you're actually allowed to drink a pint minutes before riding. If we had true zero tolerance (or even just significantly lowered the limit), you'd not be able to ride on Sunday if you got drunk on Friday night!

They obviously had my mobile number and I gave them my address, as yet I have heard nothing. I am assuming that they attended and were happy that he wasn't drunk. Otherwise I would have thought they would want me as a witness. Having thought about this further, I am wondering if I broke the law by leaving the scene of an accident. 8-[ :?

I was also told today that to dob in a drink driver that results in a conviction, Mr Plod will advance you the sum of £500. Anyone know if this is true :?: Don't get me wrong I didn't dob him in for the money, as I didn't even know about it. But if there's £500 up for grabs, it would certainly be gratefully accepted.

Its the police. Trust me it can take some time. I didnt hear from them after van accident for about 2 weeks while it was being transferred from officers dealing to the case progression unit.
