I felt like that, when they first came out, but living with a 749S in the garage for the last two years has changed my mind. Its full of little styling tweaks and the more you looka it the more things you notice. Also how many do you see on the road, it looks different, its not common and it stands out. When you see a 999 you think "DUCATI" in the way you do a 916, but not for the same reaons. I think in a few years time the 749 / 999 will be regarded as a classic / iconic bike in the way that the 916 is now.

By comaprision the 848 / 1098 / 1198 IMHO look sanitised, they are IMHO built to a price and it shows on the finishing ( lots of plastic espcially in and around the riders seat area and the ignition switch recess on the fuel tank ) It looks japanese to me, especially the front headlights which IMHO look to CBR like...

i wouldnt pay for a ducrapi but i wouldnt say no to a free bike (least i could sell it and buy a real one)ha.

My OH has decided he wants a Ducati for his next bike... think he's looking at the 748... Personally I think they look (from photo's) a bit "lumpy" but then I've not seen one close up, so I'll reserve my judgement. :)

i have an sv with gsxr front end, my bro has totally standard (apart from cans) ducati 750ss..

and i love the 750ss.. and the bonus point is i get to play on both... speed wise they are about the same but totally different handling wise.. ducati is like a boat on m/ways but always feels well and truly stuck to the black stuff, but get it on some twistys and it really changes caricature, light, nimble and a looooooot of fun..

would i swap it for the SV ... no.. coz its not as nice on long journeys...
