Bloody Plane Delays
Holiday season is upon us once more, having just been away for a week for what was meant to be a relaxing week off. I thought I'd make my self feel better by asking you all of your miserable holiday nightmares.
Personally before this trip I have never been delayed for any flight for longer than 20mins or so. However it seems Karma gets us all at some point and I recived a life time of delay all in one trip. Last Wednesday Before leaving the UK we spent an additional 5hours at Manchester airport because of engine trouble. Then on our return flight this wednesday we arrived at the airport to be told after check in that the plane we'd be flying home on hadnt even left manchester yet for the same reason so our scheduled departure time was now moved from 15.40 back to 22.30 we eventually took off at 23.30 arriving back in the UK 8 and a half hours later than expected. Not a holiday from hell I know, but 11 hours in a roasting hot airport surrounded by screaming 6yrs olds is something I never ever ever want to wish upon anybody. |
Re: Bloody Plane Delays
Spent loads of time delayed at airports. We were waiting to back off the dock at heathrow when that place landed on two wheels in 1997/8 or there abouts. That was about 4 hours sat on the plane seat.
Once when I was travelling as a minor on my own the plane was delayed and instead of leaving my there on the plane they took me back into the departure lounge which has its own little room for minors full of computer games, board games, free juice bar, snacks and everything spent another 3 hours in there whilst all the adults sat on the plane :) It was awesome oh they also had a infinite supply of jelly tots :) Once sat on a plane in turin for 4 hours after a skiing holiday waiting for the de-icer to come and de-ice the plane. There was ice....who knew?? The cabin crew were pretty amusing though and put on a little show, had the plane singing and clapping. There was also a school group we got chatting to who had taken 63 children and were returning with 58. 5 of them had been involved in various accident and been flown back to the UK early :) In those situations I couldn't careless. You go on holiday to relax and if you sit there winding yourself up about delays then you ain't guna have a relaxing time. Plus you normally get free stuff for waiting. |

KLM managed to delay our luggage for 24hrs on the way to and 24hrs on the way back from Canada at Christmas. It was about 20 degrees colder there than here, so we had to go out and buy new warm things. (they announced huge job losses this week - funny, that)

Five hours in the airport in Barbados waiting for our flight (which, when we checked in, was only leaving Toronto). Finally got underway, and then landed in Miami and sat on the ground for another four or five hours due to too much snow in Toronto. Was meant to have arrived the previous evening, got their in the wee hours of the morning!

Re: Bloody Plane Delays
The plane my lad was returning from Canada on developed engine trouble and had to divert to a military airfield (Goose Bay). They had to wait for technicians and parts to be flown in so they could get home. He was delayed 4 days! He really enjoyed being on a base near the Canadian wilderness, but a lot of his fellow passengers were mighty peed off.
Worst I have had was 4 hour delay at Zurich as they de-iced the plane. |
Re: Bloody Plane Delays
Not a delay as such - but when we were going to Crete for a friends wedding my friend only arrived at the check in desk about 30 seconds before they shut it... luckily I had been watching the empty desk, so when the attendant said "There was someone here for the last 15 mins, check in is now closed" I produced photo's on my phone and said... "Really? Is this person vertically challenged? I see no person in this photo...or this one..." She was stumped. They let us check in 5 mins late, and then the plane was delayed for over for an hour anyway. Our plane was an hour late coming home too...
Going to Poland we had to change at Amsterdam... we changed planes, our luggage didnt. The first night in Warsaw we were going to an opera... Opera is a BIG thing in Poland, they dress up for it... we were there in 2 days-worn combats and tracksuit bottoms. lol They nearly didnt let us in. |
