Adjusted clutch - bike feels different.

This weekend I thought I'd follow the debacle that was my attempt at installing Goodridge brake lines, with changing my clutch cable. All went well until I tried to shift/engage gear, or do just about anything. Nothing was happening and the more nothing happened, the more I fiddled with everything. On top of this, I installed a new shorty EZ pull clutch lever (Righteous Stunt Metal one) and at some point during all the excessive fiddling, I fiddled about with the throttle cable (not sure why). Anyway, a quick AA callout took care of the issues I was having with the clutch cable (simple when you know how) and all was well once again with the world ...

But on this morning's commute, the bike seems to want to charge. It's loads more nippy than previous. I'm not sure how to express it: the bike just seems faster. My mechanic had said the issues I had been having with the SV's 'heavy' clutch (and subsequent wrist strain) would be overcome by changing the cable, and I know the RSM clutch lever is said to make the pull lighter still, but this ought not to affect the speed/nippiness of the bike surely??

Guess my question is, is the sv quite nippy (skittish?) anyway, and I have been held back by (i) clutch/throttle cables in need of renovation and (ii) weak wrists? How can I tell if the cables need reworking to calm the sv down? At idle my RPM is at the 1200-ish mark where I believe it should be, so if the throttle was "wound too tightly" I would expect it to be over-revving even at rest. No?

Please excuse the lack of any technical terms, my biking vocabulary is sorely lacking.

Any advice would be gratefully received

Re: Could I be going faster ...

the SV is far from "skittish" as you put it and the clutch is fairly light normally, if you have a problem it could be down to either the routing of the cable or adjustment, plenty of guides to adjustment on here.

alternately, you are about 5 minutes away from me, if you want someone to have a quick look over the bike and see what's going on.

Cheers Mark.

Oh! You beat me to it!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to fiddle with me bits and set my mind at ease about the bike. I will definitely commit to finding myself in Soho, very, very shortly.

Thanks again and have a good AR12 (just gotta figure out what exactly that is  )

to long riding with a bad cable, once it was changed it felt so different was all, works as it should now, so all sweet (well a little adjustment issue, but advice given).

Cheers Mark.
