Wow - Just starting out

I've been fiddling with WOW (World of Warcraft) and wondered who else was as sad as me and was on there. I'm not even sure if I will stick at it for the moment, but its rather interesting little thing to do in the evening while Jax is watching "I'm a Celeb" rubish...

Ping 28-11-07 03:33 PM

Re: Wow - Just starting out

My mate just started playing it yesterday. I'm waiting for a report. We're hardcore RPers (Role Players) so I'm not expecting much from it.

I'm on Eve Online most evenings. It's RP insufficient but we get around that by having a special RP channel so us few can actually play our characters rather than just be ourselves in spaceships...

I've got a Neverwinter Nights server running... The game's only about £26 for the delux edition and all the game servers are free (no monthly subscription). Graphics aren't as nice as something like WoW or Eve, but if you like RP there's LOADS to be had. ;)

I've had to give up on MMORPG's, far too addictive.

I've spent too much time on EQ, EQII, DAOC, Eve, WoW etc. all on RP servers (if available), I just didn't have time to do anything else. You know you're in a bad way if you get home from work at 6:30, log on and the next thing you realise it 4am, you haven't eaten and you've got to go to work in 3 hours :D

Do miss them though :(

Ah, been there, done that. Have it TOTALLY under control now. :D Well, meaning to say there's not enough rp going on to keep me awake all night...

yes i can relate to that. I was like that with Halflife back in 98 . When i brought the new one the wife went metal saying we are not going to have a repeat of that again. :)

You just get so engrossed into it next thing you know it time to go to work.

EVE looks relay good but if i buy it i know that a devorce will be not far behind it.

I thought it was rubbish and that MMOs just weren't for me, then I accidentally picked up the trial £1.50 version just for reasearch purposes. I ended up playing on that game waaaayyy too long though I haven't been on for a few months now. Got my account still active just in case though.

Still addicted to Eve... Still waiting for Warhammer Online, at which point I might stop being addicted to Eve. I could never get into Wow though, too many tossers frankly.

i played world of warcraft quite intensely for a few months. i had an orc and he ran around in his battle shorts and he had a well shaped rear end for an orc.

haven't played it since i ditched my loser friends in sydney and moved to london!
i wouldn't mind playing it again at some stage, but only if there are others to play with. hwehehehhe. its boring by yourself.

Played WOW quite alot (you are right about the to$$ers though...:smt045. Asherons Call before WOW and various FPS before them (usual Doom, UT, HL etc) Now my laptop is knackered I don't play at all so it has kind of weaned me off games. Though the OH is considering a Wii for Xmas, at least I will get some exercise playing that though ;)

Me? Yeah, been there and done that.

For me, and a few others, Star Wars Galaxies was where it was at.

What a truly awesome game, many a night I would just sit in the square with my doctor selling buffs...

A truly sandbox game where if you just wanted to set up a shop selling clothes, you could and no-one cared. Me and a mate set up an entire in game business selling stim packs. From harvest to manufacturing, marketing to retail we did it all in game.

Then they broke it and now no-one plays it....sad, really miss it.

Now completely PC gaming free, sold the desktop and got a laptop.

Now I'm addicted to Mass Effect.....:smt045

DONT DO IT!!! Seriously, dont. I know people who have attended weddings in WOW. These same people can spend about 6 or 7 hours a day. It sucks you in and you will ramp your time up on it in no time.

Come play World in Conflict instead ;)

I like Eve, although my Corps about to collapse, all the hardcore long termers have gone down to 0.0 space and I need my skills level to be higher before I can join them.

Just about to start nosing for a L3 agent too. Start earning some proper ISK. Got a fully passive Drake now too, so gonna start hunting in a local 0.4 space and see if i can get some noobs... Only got about 5.5mill Skill Points though, so need about 8-10 mill before i can join our older guys in 0.0.

Uh... what corp are you in? Mine's just gone to 0.0 as well, I've stayed back with my mate until we're tough enough to join them. We hang out in 0.5 atm but we'll be venturing into 0.4 when I've properly kitted out my new Hurricane. (Just moved up from a Cruiser.)

At the moment for some reason my targetting's way off so I need to resolve that... My drones make the kills before I can even lock on.

Sorry, I've just clicked on this thread and feel like I'm in another world. If anyone makes a joke about it being a World of Warcraft.... I'll do nothing.

It's where we go to pretend the real world doesn't exist... We're talking about Eve Online... It's a sci-fi game as opposed to World of Warcraft (and Neverwinter Nights) which is a fantasy (Dungeons & Dragons, etc) game.

In a nutshell, yup. :D

0.0 is the security level. Everyone starts out in high a security area - 0.8 I think, there are rules so it's kinda half-way safe. Repercussions for illegal player killings are harsh. Out in low sec (0.0) There are apparently no rules so people kill each other for fun.

You've got to be good enough to survive.

MIT. Im in Eitu. Funny enough, also 0.5 lol...

Ahhh my Drakes a BattleCruiser, so the next thing for me is to save for a Battleship and get some proper firepower.... Although the next version is due soon and will have some new ships.

Targetting should be easy, you got the right skill?

Im getting back into it, wanting to start learning PvP now too. Got my first kill on a Caracal a few weeks back, but while i was waiting to loose my aggresion statues, I had someone jump in we're at war with in a much bigger ship and cained my ass :( But still, got my first kill.

kinda reminds me off this

Nowadays the nearest I'm ever gonna get to wasting my life away on a "game" is in trying to complete the endurance races in Gran Turismo. Almost did it in GT2 until someone wiped my memory card ... kinda lost interest after that.

How the hell did they screw up galaxies, I stopped playing it before the 'lightspeed' add on came out.

At the moment I'm a L12 Dwarf, just got a pet wolf, though I was also fooling around with a ork and a undead.

ha ha, yeah as said, its an online Universe. Do you know of an older game called Elite? Fly from place to place, selling stuff, making money.

Its a MUCH bigger basically, as well as trading, you can setup corporations, get members, Player Vs Player fighting (PvP), missions (earn money, fight ships). Its huge. The guys who have just left our corporation have been flying for 2 days (about 300 jumps Ping!!!!) and still haven't got to their new place...

ISK is the money. Like £ or $, just the currency name.
L3 missions, theres L1-L5 agents who you go to to do missions. Higher the level, harder the mission, but the more ISK you get. Agents vary in quality though, so sometimes its financially better to go for a lower level agent who has a higher quality level, so you can earn more.

0.0 is dangerous space. Anything below (and including) 0.4 space you can have a fight with anyone you want. So you have to be on the lookout. 0.5 space and above you cannot just start a fight unless your corporation is at war with the other persons corp. In which case, game on............

THats the website. I liek the game, but don't like you have to pay over £10pm to play it. But, in terms of killing time and amount you can play, its a good deal i guess really.

This Elite Daimo?
God I used to spend hours and hours playing that! Sadly the Atari ST version (although in "full colour" still wasn't quite as engaging as the Spectrum (or even BBC) version.
I got up to "Dangerous" rank, but then some star went supernova and toasted my a$$.

But those screen shots look nice, so who knows ... may try and get into this one day ... when I retire LMAO

Daimo 29-11-07 01:59 PM

Re: Wow - Just starting out

yeah like that elite, but far more advanced.

You can get a free trial version for a month on the site. Thats what hooked me.

I stopped playing for 4-5 months though. Stopped payments, but left character alive. When i re-joined, I just carried on using this character.

Re: Wow - Just starting out

ha ha, I was pod killed once. Was not happy, but make sure you have your clone setup so you don't loose your SP.

Get your learning skills up (makes sure Learning is L5). It will drastically reduce your other skill learning times. After you've got those, you can buy another set of Skills. But they cost about 4.6 mill isk each :-O

You missioning? Got your mission earning skills up (more ISK per mission)?

Yeah, don't fight me, u'll loose and i'll want a ransom from you ha ha. ;)

Im pretty lucky, been having a hard time, but the other day a corp guy gave me 100 mill isk, so im insured, fully armed, and ready to fight. Cloaking skill can aid you in lower than 0.4 as well.

Username is Fireball Rain on the game anyway.

All depends on what server you're on Grinch, as there's no other way to play together. So it would mean paying to move your character to them or vice versa, or starting new ones on the same server.

I'm on Lightbringer for what it's worth.
