Thats not losing your mind.......

The item I got on the same day is losing your mind......

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you ...... The Sun Microsystems Enterprise 450 !!!

http://www.b2net.co.uk/i/sun_enterprise_450.jpg

The picture doesnt really give a good impression of the size, although the castors do provide a little clue - but from the datasheet....

Height 58.1 cm (22.87 in.) Width 44.8 cm (17.64 in.) Depth 69.6 cm (27.40 in.) Weight 94.0 kg (205 lb.)
So sorry Ping, but my insanity wins :)

It was a freebie, friend of a friend got it from a place he worked at, and it came pretty loaded being the spec is 4 x 400Mhz UltraSparc2 CPUs, 4GB RAM (max) and 4x35GB 10k SCSI drives.

Got it because I really want to get up to speed with Solaris, been a while and my recent foray in the Job Market gave me the view it would be a good thing to brush up on.

Think I would rather have one of these tho, less space requirement.

Would swap you if you had one (there is one on ebay at the moment :P)

No we have a few old E280's laying about that I'm sure nobody would miss but thats about it.

I know where there is a SunFire 15K but I might have trouble sneaking it out (I think they might miss it too) ;)

Sorry for the derail Ping :D

I had a Vic 20...

Then I had a Commodore 64...
http://ergonomenon.files.wordpress.c...ommodore64.JPG

I used to HATE having to type all the codes in... sometimes 250-odd lines of coded text... then as you waited... and waited... fed the cat... took the dog for a walk... grew your hair... waited some more... it'd load!!! Then say 'syntax error, line 235' :smt092

Speccy for me ... and I lost count of the number of times I typed in one of their latest "fab programs" (all those DATA statements, that I later found out were small machine code routines to do cool stuff that just wasn't possible with plain old BASIC) ... then you'd get some error ... forget about it ... only to find that in next months "Sinclair User" they had printed an apology and a correction to the code!! Baaahhhhhh! :smt092

Lol... I was always jealous of you guys with the spectrums!!!

Ping, you need to organise a retro night, with people bringing their old consoles round so you can get all nostalgic, drink babycham or kamikaze shots and play the Atari! (Please?) :D

Yeah, you needn't have been ... colour clash? Great! ... Having to unplug your 9v adapter just to switch the damned thing off? Great (and caused countless problems after a short time due to faulty connections caused by the consistent unplugging/plugging of said adapter) ... Daley Thompsons Decathlon being solely responsible for the market boost in replacement keyboard underlays due to too many people using golf balls and SP2 batterys (now Size C for the younguns ;-)) to try to run faster, jump and throw further than ever before! In fact, DT's decathlon, and my duff keyboard was got me started on wanting to do DIY jobs on the speccy when a local computer shop wanted to charge me £40 for the privilige! :-o I got a replacement keyboard underlay for a tenner and fitted it myself :)

Now that would be fun :) Hey I'll have a babycham (in my best, big black/coloured guy from the 70s ad campaign big deep voice) :D

EDIT: maybe something for the "elder" members of the org (but those that still have their own teeth :D) ... would this be something that could be incorporated into AR08 perhaps? Retro-gaming that is, not drinking babycham!

Easy to incoporate, most "classic" systems are emulated on the PSP now.

Couple of PSP's and off we go :)

David

Oh and if you are stuck for something to do at work but cannot download/install stuff, may I give you HOB - the Java Spectrum Emulator - in a website !!!!
