London Excel Motorcycle Show

hello everybody.

mr anderson and myself are going to be going to the london excel show on sunday 3rd february. anyone who wants to go and meet up place your name here and we'll see what we can organise. we are planning to get there at about 11am and will probably be riding there. i would say it'll probably be easier for everyone to meet there, but if smaller groups are coming from the same area then you can meet up and ride down/get the tube together (or whatever, just throwing out some ideas).

i went to last years show and thought it was pretty good. loads of bikes to see if you didn't go to the NEC and loads of stuff to buy and usually some good "show price" offers. i myself bought my leather jacket there last year and intend on buying some stuff again this year.

so....... who wants to go? :-D

I shall be working there for a mate on the Saturday, and visiting to have a look round on the Sunday. Said mate reckons he might have to call on me to work Sunday as well, if it gets busy.

This afternoon I managed to blag a couple of freebie tickets courtesy of Performing Berks magazine whilst I was at a motorcycle trade show. So that's me and one of my close friends sorted for the Sunday.

Hey Lozzo...remember all those fun times you and i shared growing up? The games we used to play, the grazed knees we used to get and the time I SAVED YOUR LIFE.

*ahem* ticket in the post on its way did you say?

Nahh! If it's anything like the NEC acouple of years ago, it'll be rubbish.

I'm waiting for Ally Pally instead.

The tickets had to be named, and if you can change your name to Sue between now and then you're welcome to fight my friend for her ticket. She's the mother of two teenagers from Birmingham, I don't fancy anyone's chances much.

You'll have a very long wait, the Ally Pally show is no more - this is the show that used to be at Ally Pally, it relocated to Excel last year.

Many years ago it used to be called the Roadrace and Superbike Show, but was always simply known as the Ally Pally Show. Now it's known as the London Motorcycle Show.

Re: London Excel Motorcycle Show

I'll save my money then. I just find the big shows a bit of a con. They all claim to offer HUGE bargins but the cheap stuff is rubbish.

Ally Pally was stuffed full of decent gear at decent prices.

Cynic? Me? Never!!

Jester me old mucker. Same show, just new location, still bargins to be had. Well, last year there was, just a shame that Viney bank was empty

There were two London Shows last year Ally Pally was first and then Excel second... ehibitors were forced to choose to go to one or the other because they were so close together. The Excel show was backed by MCN and Ally Pally was Super Bike... all the big manufacturers decided to go to Excel becuase of better facilities and so ticket sales on Ally Pally were lower than normal....... something had to give.

I think paying ?18 to go Shop at Excel kinda puts a dampner on things... plus I saw all the bikes at the NEC

There would still be an Ally Pally Show if MCN hadn't lied about the reasons behind the move to Excel and printed full page disinformation adverts about the forthcoming Superbike Ally Pally Show every week prior to it happening.

Having worked in the trade at that time supplying a few of the traders who took stands at shows like this, I can tell you they really didn't want to go with the MCN move to Excel as they all saw it as the death of a good profitable show. A fair few of them formed an organisation to fight EMAP and the huge stand rents they were planning. At one point all of them threatened to boycott the whole thing if they weren't listened to.

Some of the traders appeared at both shows, but the Ally Pally one wasn't well attended because not very many people knew it was on. MCN told their readers there wouldn't be a show there again, knowing full well that Superbike were holding one. They also lied about why they were moving, saying the owners of Ally Pally had told them they couldn't hold the show at the time they wanted because the halls were being worked on. Everyone knows this is rubbish because Superbike booked them immediately afterwards for the same days.

MCN = :toss:

I've got tickets for the 2nd but I'm walking down because I live on the other side of the dock.

How crappy is the gear they have on sale? I need a new helmet (?150-?200 max.) so I was figuring on having a shop around in-between gawping at the pretty, shiny new toys for people with more money than me.

£170 got me a brand new black Shoei XR1000 last year - many will testify that it's a good piece of kit!
