Awesome cheers :) So total costs of a towbar plus rack? Presumably it would need to be a trials bike too?

You need to check the 'nose weight' that your towbar can take. Remember they are designed for pulling not carrying. Tow hitches are designed for a nose weight of around 50KG so that is the weight many towbars are designed to. Last thing you want is to rip the tow bar off it's mountings.

BTW nose weight is the downward force exerted by the tow hitch on the tow ball / bar. Trailers should be balanced so that they put about 50KG on the tow ball, to help hold them on but not overload the hitch / bar / rear suspension....

Most are bolted on to pre-existing holes in the chassis. Took me about an hour to fit one to my ex's car, one of those hidden jobbies. Not hard at all. A lot of cars these days also have a plug in wiring loom so no need to butcher the electrics. One word of warning on the electrics..... if the car has a bulb failure warning circuit, trying to wire in direct to the loom can really screw it up. If you have one of these systems and no pre-wired plug to plug the electrics into, get an auto electrician to do it.

50kg seems really really light :( even a fourstroke 250 motorcross bike is hitting 115kg!

Cost me £150 (bar/single electrics/fitting) to be done by Halfords, but that was about 7 years ago.

errr exactly. That's why I suggested you check your car's rating and that of the towbar fitted.

I think my dad paid ?300 for a towbar to be fitted to his 407 Estate, that was by the main dealer and for twin electrics etc. No idea on weight it can take but I'm 85kg and it can take me jumping up and down on it no problems at all without even a bend or creak. I guess it depends on whether it is bolted to the frame of the car or the chassis, If its bolted to the chassis it should beable to take any weight until the suspension on the car breaks.

My dad has a towbar fitted on all his cars and generally it costs between ?200 - ?300.

my trials bike is 75kg, and i have put a CR125 on a rack as well i would guess it was about 100kg, i did not have any problems, but best you check to make sure.

the place i went fitted the towbar & rack, so i guess it was ok.

Nah - surely you can just gaffatape your new trailer to the rear bumper? Maybe a couple of cableties for added security. :twisted:

I'm looking around for a tow bar at the moment for the new trailer. These guys; http://stores.channeladvisor.com/towbar seem reasonable and helpfull when I phoned up.
