Oil leak

Noticed an oil leak yesterday on the SV I picked up just before xmas.
Seems to be quite high on the engine, but cant for the life of me see exactly where it is coming from.
There is oil right up to where the bottom of the fuel tank can be seen.

I went into the dealer (Wyder Honda) in Preston that I bought it from & told them about it.
They said bring it in & 'we will investigate it for you'

Would I be correct (I dont really know) that there should be a 3 month warrenty on the bike because it came from a main dealer (albeit not a Suzuki dealer) ?

Any advice about my warrenty & where the oil is coming from, will be gratefully accepted.

thanks, Alan

Re: Oil leak

check your receipt, it should say on it.

Re: Oil leak

there is nothing on the reciept/invoice that states a warrenty period.
someone I spoke to earlier mentioned a legal requirement for a 3 month warrenty from a main dealer. not sure how true that is though

Why don't you just ring them?

Re: Oil leak

May be one of the breather pipes from the crankcases to the air filter. Could be a rocker cover gasket. Give the dealers a ring or better still, just pop in for a chat (have the bike with you;)) and they may be very obliging and take a look!

Good luck

Re: Oil leak

Alan, it's most likely a crankcase breather pipe thats come off. Have a look at the pipes and see if any are loose.

If it's leaking down the left, it'll be the crank breathers almost certainly, SVs very rarely leak from high up. If I was you, I'd have a look, it's just a case of shoving the hose back on if that's what it is- shame to deal with a garage for that.

i will take a look tomorrow when light to see if that is the problem.
being the first to admit i could write what i know about engines on the back of a stamp, please could someone tell me where i can locate the crankcase breather pipe ?

Re: Oil leak

They come up between the cylinders to the airbox, there's 2 of them attatched to the part of the airbox stuck down from the "main bit" (that's the catch can for the oil that ends up chucked up)

Re: Oil leak

If you look through the frame from the left, through the rearmost triangle, you should be able to see both hoses- they're black rubber, running more or less vertically, about 3 inches apart. Once goes forwards and down, the other goes... Somewhere else. More often than not they come loose at the top.

Re: Oil leak

quick update - it would seem that the problem was the breather pipe.

got at it from the right hand side & managed to force it back on (not easy when its covered in oil)

not sure the little clip that holdsit in place is correctly positioned so will keep an eye on that (might need a bigger boy to force it into position for me)

can i jetwash the engine to remove all the oil?
thanks guys,

Alan

Re: Oil leak

I tend to use spray on degreaser that I get from Halfords, don't like to pressure wash. I spray the degreaser on and wipe it off with a soapy rag when cleaning the bike.

PS. I have replied to your PM, sorry its a bit late.
