Hey I wondering if anyone knows anything about this, I hear that you look after people's house and don't pay anything for being there, which sounds good to me! Can this be done a long term thing? I though of this riding back home tonight!

Generally they tend to offer this to retired people as most homeowners would be reluctant to hand the keys to their house to anyone under 30. Sometimes the house sitting also covers pets etc...

Long and short term periods are offered from 1 week to 6 months. HTH

Yes true but BT is still under 30 regardless of his profession. Sometimes age is what people look at when you're asking them to look after house/valuables pets etc..

A younger person is more likely to have mates round and a party than someone in their late 60's?

Hey i could do with someone to mind my house for 2 weeks in June and feed my 2 cats, d`ya reckon i could get a house sitter? :D

Stipulation...... must be a cat lover and someone who`s not gonna rummage thru my drawers!!!

I reckon we could start a house sitting service through the Org for each other? and then no more cattery/Kennel fees? mine are almost £120/week for one dog plus cat

Umm maybe I'll give them a call see what they say, I'm, really bothred about being paid for it, as I would pay a load of tax on it anyway....but a someone to live potentially for free is a good idea!

Who me, I'm good:smt077 I'm don't mind cats and dogs in fact I miss not having a dog, I do miss him. But I can't have one in a rented place.

But being serious has anyone ever done this, I wouldn't mind hearing about it. I just like idea of cheap, cheap housing!

Thats not a problem... you can try on all my footwear but i`m more of a boot than a shoe person, just don`t stretch them :D

Right i`m definitely gonna take the entire contents of my underwear drawers on holiday with me, that oughta fill both panniers and a tankbag.... Hmmmm no space then for the stuff i`ll be needing :confused:

Think i`ll just ask my dad to feed the cats, at least i can trust him lol

I've done house-sitting for some mates while they were on holiday for a few days, not sure about doing it for total strangers though.

I basically just had to feed the cats, water some plants and generally keep an eye on the place - their house is a bit 'out in the sticks' so there aren't really any neighbours to speak of.

It did help that they have Sky+, an Xbox 360 and a pool table though! :lol:

Whilst I have nothing really of value to add to the OP, it's for the exact above conversation that me & a mate have started setting up a business.

What we started off doing, was baby-sitter-sitting, but we're also "branching out" into house sitting. Basically, we have a number of miniture wireless cameras available for hire. These are available in either high definition, or low light. We spec the venue, and install the equipment, then remove it when required and provide a copy of the footage taken. Obviously the legal necessaties regarding CCTV are taken care of too.

We started under the thinking that it would help parents make sure the baby sitters were behaving themselves, but it also works to protect the baby sitter. The same logic applies to house sitting, it protects the owners property, and the person doing the sitting.

But basically we have 3 possibilitys ..

1: Lots of small pants
2: Normal amount of huge pants (granny knicks)
3: Huge bum therefore huge pants! :D

ha, i need a house-sitter for 2 months every summer. pain in the backside to sort out every year! fancy a sweet pad in city centre manchester for 2 months??
