Policing American style

A true story from Florida:

Some "dirtbag" in Polk County Florida who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop ended up "executing" the deputy who stopped him. The deputy was shot eight times, including once behind his right ear at close range. Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed.

A statewide manhunt ensued. The low-life was found hiding in a wooded area with his gun. SWAT team officers fired and hit the guy 68 times.

Naturally, the media asked why they shot him 68 times.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, told the Orlando Sentinel: "That's all the bullets we had!"

Someone from the PC brigade will sue for his human rights abuse. Hopefully they'll get shot too

When its a case like this where there is no doubt about the guilt of the person the gloves should come off imho.

Who makes that decision? The police proved not too long ago that it certainly shouldn't be them.

Oh c'mon FS you know which side of the fernce I'm on in the JCDM case so please dotn even go there.

In a situation like one one described above. Guy kills and runs holding the gun he killed with.
Not really much room for misunderstandings there, right?

The police in this county proved they are bent by the will of politicians into carrying out assasinations against their own will and better judgment.

interesting that the second part of the quote has been left out in order to imply the quoted policeman meant "we'd have shot him more if we had more ammunition because that's how ****ed off we were" or "that's what we do" - when in actual fact he meant that as the suspect had already injured one officer, killed another and a canine, and raised his hand with a weapon to the SWAT team they weren't going to allow him to take a shot...

as much as i don't agree with the tactics of US law enforcement at times, and the potential they have for being a sledgehammer to crack a nut, in this case they had all night to get their heds together on the guy, they would have had an excellent description of the suspect, and video of him on the dashboard camera from the cruiser. nine SWAT members with automatic weapons firing 110 shots sounds like entirely reasonable force against someone who raises a weapon to them after killing an officer in cold blood...

A guy who's already killed someone, pointing a gun at you, I'd do exactly the same thing, my lifes worth far more than anyone who tries to take it.

Never mind drawing parallels with the tube shooting. This guy was armed, and thus fair game.
