To sell or not to sell...
Just thought I'd share this, basically, I need to move out the family home and the only way im gonna be able to afford to live is to sell my beloved sv. It's a K6 with 14000ish miles. I got it on 0% finance and I'm exactly half way through the 3 years of payments, so I'm hoping to sell for the same (or more) than my outstanding finance and pay it off like that. I worked out that including repayments/insurance/petrol/servicing/random things that need replacing...etc I pay out on average over £300 a month on it! I would then use that money for rent.
Now, I don't hate where i'm living at the moment (and its cheap!) I just feel its about time I moved out as I was only supposed to be staying there for 2 weeks after I broke up with my ex and that was over a year ago! I love my sv to bits and its going to be really hard to let her go. But this is something I have to do... right? I guess I just need some assurance that i'm doing the right thing. I'm a libra and find even the simplest decisions mentally draining!! :| So...your thoughts..? |
Re: To sell or not to sell...
I'd stay there until I could afford both. If the situation is adequate enough enjoy the spare cash.

Re: To sell or not to sell...
Depends on how much you can get for the SV.
I reckon you might find you won't be able to pay off the finance. |
Re: To sell or not to sell...
Have about ?2300 to pay on finance, been looking on autotrader, should get that if not more for it (if thats anything to go buy...)

Re: To sell or not to sell...
Ok, i guess that's achieveable then.
I wouldn't countenance selling my bike, but its your call at the end of the day. |
Re: To sell or not to sell...
Stop at yer parents, and plow all your spare money into paying the bike off. Get it paid off as soon as poss - then move out. Once it's yours it dosn't really cost you much to keep it.

Stay where you are if your parents are fine with it for a little longer. Lived with my parents numerous times, pretty handy really.

Re: To sell or not to sell...
If you do get rid of the bike, what is going to be your main form of transport.
I would take this into consideration as bikes can be quite an economical form of transport as opposed to public transport and cars. Remember that car tax is loads more, insurance, fuel and general maintainance. |
Re: To sell or not to sell...
sell the bike. Get a small loan over a year for say 1500. buy another SV and move out the home also! Bingo springo lingo !? problem solved

Re: To sell or not to sell...
What's forcing the move out? You, or your folks? If you really can't stand it then it's a balance of what means more to you - bike or sanity. If you can stay can you make changes to your lifestyle to make it all more palatable? I personally would be very reluctant to sell my bike.

Re: To sell or not to sell...
Thanks for all the advice guys, I think deep down I know you're right about staying at home being the best thing. I know ?300 a month wont get me anywhere (especially in London!) but it would mean I could afford somewhere. I think I actually would cry though as I saw my bike being driven off by someone else :(. It's only social reasons which are pressuring me to move out really, that and the fact that living with your parents can be a bit of a c0ck block sometimes! My folks don't want me to leave really I think .
You're right though Ed, I just gotta decide what means more to me... Which is not going to be easy baring in mind last night it took me 2 hours to decide what 4 toppings to put on my create your own pizza...:smt104 |

Re: To sell or not to sell...
Believe me when I say you will regret selling the bike. If you can live at home do it while you are still paying off the SV. Double up on the payments for the bike and it will be cleared in no time. Bear in mind that some people are put off by outstanding finance as well. I think that if you sold it you would probably get another bike within 6 months and be worse off for it. When summer hits you will be so glad to have the bike.
KEEP IT! ;) |

Basically you cant take girls home to **** them. Im considering whether or not to sell my mx5 at the moment. Im also exactly halfway through the payments and having got a new job which is less than 10 miles away, cant really see the point in having a flashy car to drive about 16 miles round trip a day and then put it on the drive for the next day. |

I see your point Gaz, it is nice on a warm day to throw the hood back, however I cant actually recall doing it that much last year as it was so bloody miserable. I wouldnt know what to get if I got rid. Maybe a mk1 instead |
Re: To sell or not to sell...
Poisonidea - I'm basically in the same boat as you mate, have just over 1 year left to pay on the SV, once that's done it frees up the money I'll need to move out. In the meantime I've been working all the overtime I can get my hands on - if I can save up enough of a lump sum to get an early settlement figure for the finance, pay it off and move out before next year, then that's a bonus. If not, at least I have a sum of money saved up for when i finally pay off the finance next year and it comes time to move out - by then I'll probably need the money for some furniture or god knows what else. Selling the SV is an absolute last resort for me, it's too big a part of my life right now.
Oh, and I'm a Libran too, so that shouldn't hold you back! |
