Passed my exams!!!!
 

Just found out that I've passed my final exams! - Meaning I've just become a fully qualified Architect! :cheers::cheers::cheers:
Its onlly taken me eight and a half years, two degrees, and an advanced diploma.

Think I'm gonna get drunk tonight. :mrgreen::mrgreen:

Now I'm just hoping it becomes a double celebration tonight: my wife is taking her driving test as i type this.......

My daughter wants to be an architect, which Uni have you studied at? And how long has it taken you? I thought it was around 7 years, but the prospectus that we have looked at have been 3, or 4 for sandwich.

It's a mystery to me, as it's not my area.

Lou,

It takes a minimum of 7 years to qualify from starting at uni. Generally the route you take is thus:

1. A 3 year course at uni obtaining a degree (usually a BA)
2. Spend a year out working for an architectural practice (you need to do this before qualifying to do a second degree)
3. Back to uni for a 2 year course either resulting in another degree or a diploma (the award varies from uni to uni - but they are all the same.
4. Return to working in practice for a minimum of a year before sitting professional practice exams - if you pass then you're done!

As far as your daughter's concerned if she starts off on the initial degree course, theres reason why she can't head off down another career path wjhen she finishes (if she has a change of heart and decides architectures not for her). An architecture degree is no less useful than any other degree for a lot of employers.

You asked where I studied: I did my first degree at Northumbria Uni in Newcastle, and my second at the Manchester School of Architecture. Both good courses, and i would recommend both.

i remember being soooooooooo nervous my first time i failed too (in the car that is)
