hit the 600 mile mark over the weekend, so rang my friendly salesman to book the bike in for its first service and see what i could blag for the couple of hours it was being worked on, didnt even need to ask the price , he told me straight out, " you know its between 500 and 700 quid?" . you could have picked me up off the floor!!! what have others paid? or am i being ripped off as a newbie to all this? heard in work a honda first service is always free!! that didnt really help.

Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
They using lube with that?
First service is an absolute piece of Pi$$, you're being shafted. p.s you don't have to use same people you bought the bike from AFAIK |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
That is 8 times what it should be, infact most places do the first service for free!
I think i paid £95 including consumables for my SV650 first service. Look else where!!!!! |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
haha, 600 mile one was free with me, 6,000 mile one was £157, I think he's having you on! £500 to tighten some bolts and change the oil if you're lucky. Hey I'll tell ya what, I'll do it for £200 :P

Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
Till him to FOAD or Badger`ll come round there and give him a knuckle supper , also tell him he will never see another penny from you again , in fact screw it , call Suzuki up and tell him that their dealer is shafting his customers .... that`ll teach him , got my blood boiling this has .

Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
My first service was cost of parts only (so an oil filter and 4 litres of oil...), so you're very much being shafted there.
Thinking about it, the major 14.5k service was half what you're being quoted... and they had my bike all day working on it. |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
I agree with badger, please name and shame this crook!

Rip off.

Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
Perhaps they are fitting a gixxer front end for you :)
I paid for Oil & Filter on my SV 600 mile service, and the same for the ZX 600 mile service. |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
Sounds like your being tied to a barrel and getting ready to be shafted mate.
Mine had its first service and it cost diddly squat, and I was given free coffee/tea while it was being seen too, plus I managed to get a wash out of them. Name and shame then mate |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
well they have 2 dealers over here, so im phoning the other one tomorrow to "enquire" about buying a new sv, and ill slip a few running cost questions in, like how much are the basic services, just to see.
|
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
My first service was free and my second service cost about £70 so you are being ripped off badly.
Tell them to foxtrot oscar. |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
My first service all i had to pay for was the oil and an oil filter, i think it was about £45 or something, certainly not a lot.
|
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
It's such a blatantly wrong price that I doubt he's actually quoting for the first service. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, give the number to someone else and have them ring to enquire about the first service cost, to see what he says. Then ring him back yourself and pretend to be about to book it in, ask him to confirm the price he gave you earlier etc.

Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
Give us the name, lets all slate them in riderpower 2008!! :D

As mentionned by some others, I got the first service for free (t'was about 2 weeks after I bought the bike). Labour free, all parts free, the dealer knew I'd be back in about 6 weeks to hand over some cash for the next service. Some dealers do charge for parts, but give labour free. £45 is pushing a rip off for oil & filter. M&P service kit will give you oil/filter/spark plugs for £30 ish. The only other thing on the service is bolt checks. Name & shame the dealer. F#!?ing £500. I'm getting the valves checked for the second time (30k service) in a couple of weeks, and that's costing me approx £150!! That's a good 4 hour job (just checking the valves) which involves taking bits off the engine. |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
my bad I just checked in my folder full of bike stuff, my 600 mile service was £33.25

t18con, I noticed you said you have 2 dealers 'over here' - wherabouts are you based mate? |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
think mine was £21 the first time and £30 the second (insurance replacement)
AFAIK the labour is free at the original dealer (not sure how true that is but was what I was told) otherwise the labour charge can bump it up. |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
GIving the benefit of the doubt for a minute here.
Maybe he was just saying that the service should be between 500 and 700 miles, what with 600 miles being the service interval, and that would give a 100 mile lee-way each side.... Thats the only reasonable explanation...... |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
Mine was completely free.
(Although it did come with a free servicing deal) |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
Mine was free of charge but that may have been because I had done the 600 miles in about 48 hours so i already had it booked in for service the day i picked it bike up.
|
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
I paid 269$ for my first service, bolts, filter, oil, lubing. By reading this thread looks like i got shafted also. I think your dollar to ours is almost double. or its like 1.50 to our 1. What should i be looking at around the second service? sorry if am thread jacking not trying to

Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
For my second service I paid £112, all in, not sure that was a particularly cheap dealer but it was recent too (2 weeks ago)

Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
1st service is cost of parts only!!!

Could the original poster phone the dealershiop and resonably ask for a quote again and confirm all details are correct? It'd be rather stupid for a good dealer to get a bad reputation due to a mis-understanding.:-? If of course they are genuinely after ?500+ for a first service, make sure you ask for a breakdown of labour and service costs. Innocently ask what's involved and whether they'll be replacing the powerband at the same time?:D Jambo |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
I tried to hire a bike while mine was getting work done and the costs are extortionate . I was looking at £7-900 for three days so maybe the guy is quoting you for bike hire as well as the service . Bike hire insurance is a killer .

Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
First Service doesn`t take long , 2 hours tops if they are ripping the mickey out of you .
|
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
i'd bet my bellend that the dealer was talking about miles rather than money, as soulkiss has suggested. I think we are all getting excited over a simple mis-understanding.
|
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
As far as I'm concerned, the first service should be included as the purchase of the bike - you pay for materials: oil and filter.
|
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
This has to be the mileage, otherwise you NEED to name this dealer.
It's not like their prices are steep, it's obscene and taking advantage. I'd even go as far to inform any manufacturers like Suzuki about their practices, with intent to stop their supply of new bikes |

My first service was parts only (oil & filter) but the oil for the bike is fluffing expensive. |
Re: New sv first service...HOW MUCH??
At cost, about 10 or 15 quid, and about 4 for the filter.
