Please tell me I've made the right decision...!

Just put a large dent into my credit card, and bought a Sv650sport K8!

The restriction has just come off my licence, and I couldn't resist upgrading from my CBF250.

I know that people have got nothing but praise for the bike, but is it that good....?

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to the SV!

Re: Please tell me I've made the right decision...!

A lot depends on what type of rider you are, what you rode in the past and what you want from the bike.

If you have ridden a 250 then why not...it will be an improvement.

Whether it is the best bike for the money depends on what floats ya boat.

In terms of reliability then it is pretty much sorted.

Re: Please tell me I've made the right decision...!

Thanks for the reassurance!!
Initially, I was going to buy a hornet, then I toyed with the idea of BMW F800. But the reviews of the SV are so positive. People seem so passionate about the bike...

The ?400 quid deal that Suzuki are offering swung it for me....

Re: Please tell me I've made the right decision...!

Im in the same sort of position, i've had one two weeks after a 2 year gap from my RS125. I love it so far, so much more practical, nice bike.

A lot quicker too, i'm half way through running it in, so can only go to 8250rpm now, but that seems quick enough already.

It is a great bike and a good choice up from a 250. There are plenty of mods you can do for it and it is a great price for a lovely engine. Enjoy and welcome :)

Most of us here like them, but then we would, we joined a forum so we could talk about them :)

It all depends what your expectations are, and what you've already experienced. Don't expect Hornet or BMW refinement or build quality, and of course there are faster, better handling bikes out there so don't expect to stay with a GSXR600k8. But expect it to be a bike which is cheap to own, agile and "fast enough" to keep you entertained and you won't have the buyer's remorse.

Well as a bit of reassurance there, a friend of mine had one (from new), the ABS had a habit of letting the brakes off at totally random and unpredictable times. My mate ended up in the middle of junctions a couple of times because the brakes came off.

BMW don't appear to recognise this as a "fault".

He now has a TDM.

Re: Please tell me I've made the right decision...!

No. Newer SV;s are cack; the older they are, the faster they go. Also, yellow is the fastest colour.

So a 1999 yellow curvy would be a better bike
:smt074

Only joking ;) You made an excellent choice, the SV will teach you alot about riding, and will never hesitate to make you smile. Infact, you should have got one sooner! Mines restricted, and I'm having a blast!

Re: Please tell me I've made the right decision...!

i am pretty sure you will really enjoy it.

the sv is my first big bike after passing my direct access. i rode an nsr 125 on cbts for a few years and got so sick of it because it was so unreliable.

i then bought the sv which was heavily modified and must wow i havent had a boring moment on it yet! it makes me smile everytime i ride it.

i would love to ride a standard sv one day so i can see what they are like with standard suspension and engine etc

You'll love it. Although that's got to be the most expensive way to get a bike, on a credit card! Ouch.

Great bike that you can do almost anything on (ok off roading is limited, and long wheelies will starve the engine of oil), a great introduction to big biking, had one for almost three years and have enjoyed doing all sorts on it.
