Motogp Crash.

Did anyone see this crash at the Mugello GP? It was Hector Barbera on the Aprilia 250, he was slipstreaming another bike down the straight but got too close and he pushed his front brake on as he nudged the bike in front! His front wheel locked up at 160mph and he walked (staggered) away... Lucky bugg@r!

 Holy sh*t!

Amazing how the bike misses him, and that he seems to scrub off a lot of speed before he hit the wall. Scary to watch.

I couldn't understand what happened, but reading the text it says the brake was jammed on when the bikes touched!

The commentary at the time said that too. As the rider in front came across, he hit Barbera's brake lever causing it to jam on.

seen many of those crashes over the years, brakes are that good you only need to bump another bike with your leaver and your over.

wow, lucky he walked away.

Reminds me of the old game road rash!

Indeed saw it. Very bad considering it was going over the line for the last lap! :(

I liked the look on the team boss's face at the end. All around him are screaming and covering their faces, he just shrugs and goes "oh well".

Meh. I did that once on my Raleigh Burner.

Amazing how he walked away.

Indeed, not too difficult to imagine when the 800's go over 200mph!

I'm surprised Simoncelli got away with that as he appeared to properly cut Barbera up to me.

I was thinnking that. All the women, probably thinking about the rider thinking oh, hes going to be hurt, the boss thinking, bugger, theres another bike up the spout!

+1

Second to last lap, he would have knowen the slip streem slingshot was coming, so he tried to stop it by moving over, but got across too late. IMO

It is scary to think that it could happen on the road, time to invest in some hand guards!

I'd hope so, even my 12 year old road-legal 250 can crack 130, and that's with only 55 or so bhp on tap.

Remember that in the TT, 125s used to compete with 400s and 250s with 600s. Slow they are not.

The best example I can think of would be the big stack at the first corner of the Catalan MotoGP two years ago. Gibernau clipped Capirossi's bike with his brake lever and cartwheeled forwards into the gravel taking half the field with him. Possibly the most impressive crash I've seen since the late Norick Abe's exit from his 1994 debut at Suzuka

Not necessarily, there's a difference between racing and dangerous riding. You're not supposed to deliberately weave in front of other riders which is arguably what Simoncelli did. You're right, he did know the slingshot was coming and he got across too late. Therefore he was at fault IMO.

Not that it matters cos he appears to have got away with it! I think it would have been a different matter if;
A) Hector Barbera wasn't such a nice guy
B) Hector Barbera had got seriously injured

Maybe Simoncelli will think twice about doing it again, Barbera would have won that race if he hadn't been cut up IMO.

Cheers,
Matt

Hmmm, not sure and deleted the race last night. Hopkins rides for Kawasaki now though doesn't he?
Whatever, just good to hear MotoGP being talked about this way......all the races were cracking!!!

Lets hope for another good weekend x

The video I linked to was from 2006 when Hopkins still rode for Suzuki (I'm assuming that's what you were referring to)

yep point taken. supose running wide on a corner to deny someone the line they want is different to cutting them up like that.

Re: Motogp Crash..

Simoncelli is a maniac. The weaving to break the tow is a dangerous thing to do with no real way of knowing how close the bike behind is, and he just seems to not give a damn!

He did the same thing to Kalio at the end of the Portugese grand prix this year, it could have ended badly too
