Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
Does anyone know what console cable is required for one of these devices or indeed how to get into it and reset the password and config?
The management port appears to be a 10-base-T port..... Any help appreciated. |

You can do password recovery once you have that cable - you will also need a PC/Laptop with a serial port, by following these instructions. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/...80110d14.shtml I have got a spare Console Cable sitting here you can have if you want it, and if you are near Liverpool St/Finsbury Square you can come pick it up. PM me. :) So just how does someone who knows as little as you about Cisco kit come to have their hands on about 8 Grands worth of CSS ??? :D :p |
Re: Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
Yes I confess I am not really a cisco man - did do my CCNA years ago, but never used it and as a result have lost it....I am much better on Procurve (yeah right).
Actually just want to reset it and get shot of it. I tried that already which is why I posted on here as I know there are some experts. I wondered if perhaps I was doing something wrong? |

I saw the title of the thread, and I thought, do I really want to click on it? Then my colleague suggested that maybe it was a photo of a Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500 nestled between two enourmous breasts. So I clicked on the thread. I am disappointed. :( |
Re: Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
SoulKiss - I was pinning my hopes on you then too - I have got a flat cisco console cable, but I think the pin-outs are different in the rollover cable aren't they? Could just be a dodgy cable or someone who hasn't done much technical for a few years trying and failing..........

Re: Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
Yeah the CSS's aren't "proper" Cisco as they bought out another company back in the days when it was still called Local Director - they look like IOS and smell like IOS but it ain't quite IOS.
Last time I played with one (well, two) was about 18 months back but I'm pretty sure it was the standard rolled blue cable, 9600 baud, no parity, 1 stop bit. Ensure your serial port works first - those USB to serial port converters often go pear and start assigning all manner of COM port numbers. Side note, why won't laptop manufacturers make lappys with serial ports? If that doesn't work, then you can reset a 3750 by holding in the mode button on the front panel while powering in rather than having to do the device register trick, though if memory serves, the CSS doesn't have any front buttons. EDIT: If you need to make a cable the pinout is 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 for rolled cables. Any old tatty bit of cat5 and a crimper is all you need. Although you'll also need a DB9 serial to RJ45 convertor (I seem to have dozens of those floating around and I'm not entirely sure why as I can't remember using one for a long time). |
Re: Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
No the CSS has no button at all, just want to blitz any config on the device before getting shot of it.....anyone have any use for it?

Re: Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
Please ensure that if there is a cable exchange it is done under the cover of darkness and away from the general public, don't want that Nerdyness rubbin' off do we.

Re: Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
I take it you do know these are CatOS switches* :smt102
Can't remember off the top of my head, but a straight cable normally works rather than the standard rollover, I used to keep two of the 9 pin adaptors and use a cat5 cable between for these type. * dependent on model and upgrades obviously. Cheers Mark. |
Re: Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
Yuk, yuk Yuk. Local director
We had a technology director who said we must use them for load balancing in our hosting centre and bought 10 and a few Alteon switches as well. Never got beyond testing with them as they went into the storeroom never to see the light of day again. horses for courses perhaps. but local director did not work in our environment. (multi tier WebSphere clusters, round robin DNS etc.) |
Re: Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
What about a HP Access Control Server 745WL? Any use to anyone?
|
Re: Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
Or some HP 4000m switches?

Re: Cisco Content Selector Switch 11500
They're worth a fair wodge krhall, as are the HP procurves, I'd be tempted but the missus has me on a strict rationing system - I'm only allowed new flashy lights if I dump some of the old flashy lights :(
