What have you done to get points on your bike?
 

I was just reading about getting points on your bike, and think that I'm probably being a bit niave on with my ignorance to the law. I tend to ride my bike to my perceived safety without any real regard for the law.

Basically it seems a lot harder to get points on your bike than in a car. My main fear in the car was the mobile speed cameras, but as they're forward facing they're now no danger.

I know where all the fixed cameras are locally.

So that leaves coppers with their guns, which apparently are hard to get a reading from on a bike?

And unmarked police cars that you may overtake or be followed by, which seems unlikely.

How have you all got points on your bikes, and what did you get for doing what?

i see bikers pulled over by unmarked cars all the time!

It's probably just as easy to get points on your license from a bike as it is in a car. I've not had any points for speeding in a car but got 3 points on my bike from a copper with a handheld gun

SP30 - 3 point 60 quid fine. Which was 38 in a 30
SP30 - 4 points 300 quid fine. Which was 99.1 2-up in a 70.
SP30 - 5 points 500 quid fine. Which was 97.5 2-up in a 70.

Three points - 54mph on the back wheel accelerating up what used to be a 60mph dual carriage way (it changed to 40mph over the weekend and i didn't take note of the sign).

CD10 7 points and £450 fine after I crashed my bike, which slid down the road and hit an on-coming car.

All I have is an SP30 - 6 points, 102 on a NSL dual carriageway in a car. I'd of almost certainly gotten away with this on the bike. I've also "avoided" an SP30 and 3 points at least 3 times on a bike. So I'd say, yes, it is easier to "get away with it" on a bike, especially when you factor in the ratio of mileage I do car:bike is about 5:1.

I'm no hooligan; IAM and more interested in tourers than sportsbikes. I ride longish distances regularly and use by bike 95% for work/commuting and only 5% for pleasure these days. Like yourself, I tend to be more concerned about riding my bike safely than legally and when I am in situations where an illegal manouvere is safer than the legal alternative, I won't even think twice about doing it.

By 'avoided' do you mean you said "look a Herring!" whilst pointing behind the officer(s) and tehen scampering away? Only thing is the police these days seem less and less interested in Herrings. :(

SP30, 3 points & £60 fine. Can't remember what it was for at the moment.
TS20, 3 points & £90 fine. Followed by a livered up pan down a decent run, both of us over the speed limit, I crossed the white line so he did me for that and my then small plate.

As above, I ride with little thought to the legality of it all.

Nothing!! I had my points before i had my bike!!!

SP30, 3 points £60 fine,
CD10, 3 points £cant remember how much, accident related, (now expired)
SP30, 3 points £60 fine camera van,
SP50, 6 points £400 speeding on the motorway (lucky to keep my licence!)

The rest expire december this year.

6 points and £340 for 'undertermined speed' (police's words) I overtook a line of 4 cars which were all sitting at 50 mph. The leading car was an unmarked cop car. I didn't even know they were chasing me til I got the summons a few days later.

3 points for overtaking another unmarked BMW a month later and crossing the double whites/ hatchings.

3 points in my works transit van for 80mph on the dual carriageway. Should've been 60 :roll:

The last three resulted in a 6 month ban under the totting-up procedure. The rubbish thing is people assume you're a drink driver when they hear of your ban. I wasn't prepared for that aspect of it.

SP30 - 6 points - 116mph, in a car.

SP30, 3 points £60 fine - 61 in a 50, in the car. Dual carriageway with nobody else on it. It's so damn arbitrary and capricious.

They finish in January, come off the following January.

got done 42mph in a 50mph zone with road works (makes it 30 ?????????? no signs) 3 points £60 fine
and 52 in a 30 in car on way to casualty which has been moved 13 miles away from burnley to blackburn ???????? 6 points £270 fine
can now see why people dont bother with tax test insurance or registering cars bikes (sold last 2 vehicals to john smith)

Also be wary of thinking that all Truvelo cameras are forward facing, espescially in Northamptonshire - the home of new road safety initiatives...


... there are at least three in the town alone that can now be turned to scan for rear numbers too. You may think it's scanning the opposite lane - sometimes it is - sometimes it's not!

SP50, 3 points and £60 fine. Doing 65 on a motorway with temporary
50 speed restriction due to road works, in the car. Didn't see the
speed restriction or camera due to thick fog.

Not got any in car or on bike. :D 8 years and counting......I use the logic of there being a time and a place to have a play and its kept me safe up to now, and I use everything the bike has got.

I'm also innocent. No points at all in 9 years of driving and 2 years of riding. Not that I ride legally but I'm just careful about where I have my blasts at silly speeds.

i have not got any for the bike, YET lol am waiting for the day you know its going to happen.

but for the car i got done for 36 in a 30 by an unmarked car at 4.30 am on my way to work in london................so now have a sp30 and 3 points
