drawing on my experiance of attending the Ally Pally bike shows... ....you might get a fiar wodge off, you might not. You might buy a suit you think is cheap, walk around the corner and see it for sale on another stand for another £20 less just go, and see what there is there will be bargins though |

Re: NEC Cheap gear???
The nec is generally a promotions show with lots of special offers on kit etc. I got my arai tour-x helmet for £200 when it was meant to have been £275 or something. It came with a clear visor but I wanted a smoked one as well so he said "go on then, 50% off - you can have it for £25"... I think they'll probably inflate some RRP's so they can offer "bigger" discounts but you will generally save a bit of money.
You could possibly contact them and ask if they're attending the show & what sort of discounts they'll be offering. I can't recall seeing any tyre dealers there last year but I'm sure there will be. Gonna see how much I can get some avon storms for :) |

Re: NEC Cheap gear?
Many suppliers also use some of these events to clear out old stock and discount hugely. First come first served is the order of the day, so get their sooner than you think. At the last Excel, Mich Byrne was selling KBC helmests for $100, sadly only certain sizes and colours, they were flying off the shelf, especially the pink ones to the ladies

Re: NEC Cheap gear?
Ive generally found the NEC show to be quite expensive, especially after paying an arm and leg to get there and get in.Tends to be retailers and manufacturers showcasing their latest products, rather than pile it high sell it cheap like the BMF shows.

Re: NEC Cheap gear?
Rukka were selling their stuff at RRP last year so I didn`t bother , managed to get a local shop to do me a big discount , picking the trousers up to go with my jacket next week :D

Re: NEC Cheap gear?
We had an avon stand at the show last year. and as far as i know we shall be there again this year. (i work in IT for Cooper-Avon) that reminds me, i must disable one of the sales and marketing pc's so i can get called out and then fix it in exchange for some free tickets!! :)

slick guy :)

Re: NEC Cheap gear?
Rukka stuff (and other premium lines) tend not to get discounted at shows, or anywhere pretty much. TBH once you eliminate all the total RUBBISH the deals at shows tend not to be all that amazing, in my experience.

On the other hand. If you are going anyway, to enjoy the show then it's possible to save a little money but not much. |
Re: NEC Cheap gear?
I like them for shopping, just because of the huge choice, not so much the price. I hate shopping for bike gear usually- try this on, ride somewhere else, try that on, which one fits best? Don't know.

Re: NEC Cheap gear?
all in all, even if you're not spending a fortune, it's a great day out talking about bikes with like minded people, sitting on the latest models (and maybe even some bikes ;)), getting the latest info from manufacturers, trying on new kits, lots of freebies like carole nash calendars, hein gericke lanyards, stickers to stick all over your fridge/computer... and expensive crap food. I can't wait :D

Re: NEC Cheap gear?
Aye theres a lot of Tat there (Even more at Scottish show) and because its there people will buy it (even though its protection is probably quite low). I found that if you're looking for premium brands then only good deals on end of lines. Unfortunately they tend to be for big or small folk, not the rest of us in between. You might save a tenner here and there.
Agree with Northy over all under one roof idea though |
Re: NEC Cheap gear?
I got myself some amazingly cheap gear at the NEC last year. Not the biggest brand
names but decent quality (have been wearing it for almost a year now). It is well worth visiting the NEC and it also makes sense travelling there by car. Say, if you get paddock stands as a free goodie it could be kinda difficult transporting them on a bike (unless you are an experienced Indian taxi biker). |
