A question RE race leathers

Right now I'm renowned for being a bit of a plonker and I want your honest opinions .org...
A couple of weeks back I took apart my neighbours old honda cub cleaned it up and got it running after being stood for 5 years. I sold it on ebay for £700 (!) to a couple who drove an 18hour round trip to collect it (!!) absolute madness but anyway said neighbour gave me £400 for my troubles (I'd actually offered to do it for free). Well anyway with 400 english (and some scottish) pounds burning a hole in my pocket I walked into HG and before I new it I'd bought some alpine stars leathers reduced from £550 to £400 :oops:
Now my question is (and I suspect the answer) would I look a complete tool in these on a little curvy naked sv650?

....

Nope you'll look fine, black goes with everything.

As long as you are happy who gives a stuff what anybody else thinks.

Re: A question RE race leathers

My initial reasoning was that they're comfy, offer good protection (I'm fond of my skin) and were at a decent price I wasn't really too arsed that I was just on my humble 650x. But a mate sniggered a me the other day which made me wonder if the rest of sheffield would **** themselves as I drove past. I got him back anyway when I caught him yesterday with a harley davidson leather jacket on on a sneaky ride out.

Black goes with everything- you'll look fine. You can also change your bike and not look daft with yellow leathers on a blue bike.. I think black looks the best, just my opinion though ;)

Cheers for the reassurance lol like you say glad I didn't go ott and buy a wasp outfit. I just the the fact I was in race leathers on a naked might look funny...although I did see some one in full white race leathers on a 125 the otherday....

wonder if this is poll material...

Re: A question RE race leathers

If you find them comfy then there is nothing better, you won't look a tool as they aren't in your face like some leather are and as said above black goes with everything.

Anyone who laughs at you for wearing proper protective gear, you laugh at. You'll find no matter what you wear some peopel will find it funny, my office finds my gear hilarious, who cares? It might just be a "little" 650 but it'll still hurt you very badly if you let it, it's not a scooter.

+ 1, I have the scars and metal work to prove it.

Re: A question RE race leathers

I`ve got metal work and terrible injuries from 125 accidents over the years , wear your leathers with pride and don`t worry about it , nice choice and a good decision . You can get into trouble on a scooter yanno . Look in MCN , they all wear leathers on most tests , no matter what the bike is .

Re: A question RE race leathers

Hope not, since those are the same as my leathers haha.. Though I'm half faring..

I find my set really comfortable too.. Haven't found anything else as comfortable on the backside/crotch for riding distance/'enthusiastically'.~

Pretty waterproof aswell, apart from a few dampish patches from were the stretchy bits are..

Re: A question RE race leathers

You won't look like a plonker at all, honestly and sincerely.

Re: A question RE race leathers

Cheers for that guys it's settled then.
I was a bit worried about my boots too, but who cares what anyone else thinks=;

Re: A question RE race leathers

Honestly, the leathers are fine, but I hate to say the boots do clash a bit with the yellow. Sorry....

Boots are ok, they suit a naked... ;)

Nope. I think they look cool. I'd love some but I'm 6'5" and only weigh 13 stone.
On a seperate note. Does anybody know were long thin people can get decent leathers?

they look slick matey, I wear the hein gerick psx 2 piece suit & love em :)

alpine star's some of the best kit you can get as far as I see it? As long s you're protected, warm & dry, the rest of sheffield can laugh at you while they queue in traffic or at the bus stop :)

Nice set of leathers if you ask me, and i'd rather look a tool than have gravel rash. Sod what others think mate, look after No1.

Re: A question RE race leathers

They look eirie! I brought a set of Dainese RR27 recently ( bargain £372!!) and whilst they may feel to be overkill for a 650 they are comfy.

The only downside is I look like a fat power ranger!

I don't get this only a 650 stuff. You can still go fast enough for some serious damage to you, your bike and others.. and even then, you don't have to be going particularly fast for that. I'd rather look a tool than lose my skin..

Re: A question RE race leathers

Sean the 650 thing I refer to is RR leathers for a naked! The only time I've been offed so far was time trial (pedal bike) at about 35mph so well aware of the potential damage fella! That said it doesnt matter if you bin a Busa at 40 or a C90 at 40 damage much the same but one absolutely kills your self esteem!

I tried on the blue and white ones in the shop for sizing looked good.
Cheeky sales man bas**** told me the deal was only on for a week - I knew what he was doing but tbh I just wanted to spend that cash.

It wasn;t really the 650 business I was getting at. Just thought it might look a bit odd on a nekked. I know 650's are death in the wrong hands without a doubt, I'm aware - I've always warn armoured gear even on 50s. Just never had anything this racey.

I have 2 piece HG leathers, the pro sports one, they are balck, blue and white and Black boots and awesome coloured arai lid.

Myself I love my leathers they are like a second skin and fit me great, all my bike gear fits like that. Your bike should fit like that and inspire confidence and feel good to wear.

To be honest I don't care if I people say whatever, they will help should I ever come off, the SV is more than fast enough to kill you, so yes always wear leathers. I prefer leathers over anything else.

The majority of comments I get are how people like the colour and look of my bike and the rider.

I thought the same thought the chest looked a little bland - But they look a lot better on. Mine are a bit tight on the chest (with back protector in) but I reckon they'll wear in okay.

Yeah, there's something nice about owning/wearing leather
