Time to say goodbye . . .
. . . to my 1200 GS as I spent yesterday afternoon haggling* with a delightful salesgirl which resulted in my ordering a new bike which I shall be collecting on Friday.
Any ideas as to what I may be seen riding in the future ? - keep the ideas CLEAN please !! |

Well with your youngsters and better half to consider these days,I can see a gleaming Ural side car unit being a serious contender. You can tour your usual haunts in 21st century George and Mildred styley.;)

Give that man a doughnut - well half of one anyway - I'm deducting half because of the Hardly reference. Yep - as of Friday I shall be the owner of a gleaming new R1200 GS Adventure. How long it will remain gleaming is debateable as the weather forecast is not very nice :-( Oh well, new bike - virgin tyres - wet roads, just like when I picked up my current GS !! |
Re: Time to say goodbye . . .

I've always liked the Adventure version - but didn't have the extra money when I bought the GS - and I wasn't sure how good it would be for road use; but, with the pay rise i just received (long overdue I might add !!) I can now afford one. I was looking to swap my 06 GS for the new improved 08 GS - but, when I looked at the price difference against the GS Adventure (this time I was going to pay extra for wire wheels as opposed to the standard alloys anyway) it was less than a grand - so having had a test ride around the back lanes of Kent on Saturday I decided that its as good (if a little bit heavier round corners because of the 33l tank) as the GS on the road - so I went back to the dealer yesterday, negotiated what I think is a good deal & bought it !! |

Re: Time to say goodbye . . .
Congrats oh Hairy one , a lad in work has one and he loves it to bits , he also has a GSXR1000 07 plate and a Yamaha WR450f ? and the Adventure gets way more miles on it than the other 2 bikes combined :D

However, finding out that an acquaintance had bought one and a quick phone call convinced me of what I'd read in the press; that whilst it's a very good bike - it definitely isn't the on-road mile-muncher that its big brothers are. Off-road I'm told it's actually better than the 1200's because it's that much lighter, etc. But seeing as off-road riding is not likely to feature heavily in my life I decided against. Also, it doesn't quite have the same look as the big ones - I really do like the In-Your-Face-King-Of-The-World look and feel of the 1200's. But, if you decide it's for you then ENJOY !! P.S. Have you considered a 1200 ? BMW now do a lowered suspension option along with lower seat options too. I don't know what height you are but the lady who sold me my new bike stands 5'6" and rides a GS 1200 every day as her company bike. |

I mean, I knew when I bought my GS in 2006 that I wasn't going to lose truck loads of money on it when it was time to PX / sell. |
Re: Time to say goodbye . . .
My mate has one and absolutely loves it. My dad took one out for a test ride when thinking about chopping his Pan in for one, but couldnt get away with the boxxer engine.
I like em, ugly looking bike, now more short person friendly with a very low seat height. I could easily get my feet down. Too expensive for me though at present. I baulk at £5k price tags never mind £7k |
