We can dream.
In todays Enviromentally friendly politically corrected day of today, i guess a V4 500cc is out of the question. Shame, that iconic 500cc shape with some subtle modern touches.

Re: We can dream...
I like that, but i'm not sure that im Indoors would be convinced. He wouldn't want another Rd500 whatever guise it were in

Re: We can dream...
4 exhausts. 2 side and 2 under seat. has to be one from each pot on a stroker.

Re: We can dream...
bearing in mind its a gas guzzler. original Rd500 tank 24 litres:shock:...which would be gone in 120 miles down to reserve, ridiculous. In a straight line it was absolutely blisteringly fast, fast heavy bike with no engine breaking, so no good down hill, rather pleasant round corners
still nice in this pic, still not convinced..lol |

Re: We can dream...
Thats awesome! She would sit nicely next to the 350LC!
Apparently a 2 stroke using injectors instead of carbs are actually clean and economic?! |
Re: We can dream.
No they're not. You lose loads of fuel out of the exhaust. Though there is some interesting work going on with variable compression 2 strokes.

Re: We can dream.

Re: We can dream.
I`m a 2 stroke boy at Heart , and the RD500 was the bike that made me want to ride in the first place . I would buy that WITHOUT hesitation . A mate of mine on Xbox Live has a Spondon Framed/swing armed RD500 that is heart-achingly beautiful . He used to have a video of it on Youtube absolutely devastating Fireblades on his local Rat run . The sound was addictive ... I miss the crackle and the smoke of 2 strokes , if legislation and Yamaha allowed that bike up top ........... I would have it without a care in the world .

A couple of years later two of my mates had an RD500 and an RG500 and I got the chance to ride both of them back to back. Those two rides convinced me I'd never want to own an RD500, and if I was spending my own money on a big stroker it would be the RG every time. It looked right, sounded right, went better, handled and stopped well - it ticked all the boxes the RD didn't. The RG was a good replica of Suzuki's race bikes, the RD didn't even come close to being what the GP riders had. Over the years I've had a few opportunities to buy RD500s as they are about the only UK imported RD I have never owned, and I've always waited for an RG to come along at the right money instead. |

If I had a lot of money burning a hole in my pocket I'd build that.

Re: We can dream.
Theres a bloke building a replica Cagiva 500cc somewhere, I was reading a post about it not long ago. Small issues like fairing etc to sort out, but using a 500cc twin cagivia engine etc. Wasn't the best looking and wasn't finished, but was deffo coming along to becoming a really nice bike.
