newbie finally saying hi
hi everyone
im Cy and i live in Norwich. I picked up my SV on Monday and finally have some daylight today so i could take a pic. Ive worked my way up from a 59 lambretta to a ducati 600 supersport which i got rid of a couple of years ago. When i decided it was time to get another bike recently, i knew wanted a v-twin and the sv took my fancy. Anyway, i got mine from a nice chap on the for sale board here and am enjoying riding it so far - even if it has just been to and from work in the cold. Had a new rear tyre put on this morning and then test fitted my fairings so took a snap. http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...95604_7242.jpg |
Re: newbie finally saying hi
Hello, welcome to the SV...
You are missing the large bolt and washer from the side of the fairing. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g8...7/DSCN0063.jpg |
Re: newbie finally saying hi
thanks for pic and guidance!
just checked mine out again and i dont seem to have anywhere for that bolt and washer to go into? is there a bracket or something that i would bolt it on to? cheers! |
Re: newbie finally saying hi
There should be a brcket for it to bolt to under the fairing, its the main bracket too! It has a large round head on it which fits sungly into that hole, the the large washer (or a crash bung) fit over and are bolted to the bracket.

Re: newbie finally saying hi
I would guess the previous owner had R&G crash bungs fitted to there bike, do you know? The R&G full fairing crash bungs come with a replacement bracket.
|
Re: newbie finally saying hi
dont seem to have anything like that on there! :(
dont think the previous owner had any bungs or whatnot. heres mine http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...495685_467.jpg i was thinking about the crash bungs, but it has been an expensive week! didnt expect to have to shell out for a new rear tyre too... I knew it was squared off but yikes. it was pretty bad. where is best to get some? theyre about £75 arent they? |
Re: newbie finally saying hi
The ones you are missing are these.....
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...Picture907.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...cture016-1.jpg ....and unfortunately you can't buy the individually new. |
Re: newbie finally saying hi
ahhh! cool! thanks for the info!
i have the front C shaped ones, but not the curved back ones. Presumably by looking at the crash bungs pic, they do the same job but better and with the bung on it too? |
Re: newbie finally saying hi
You have two options...
1) Is buy a full fairing mount kit, personally I don't think you should do this because you have have the brackets already and it costs a whooping £116.99. 2) Is you buy the full fairing crash bungs from R&G, I think this would be your cheapest route and although I am not a fan of R&G for the SV650 you will get two products for the price of one (bungs and a bracket). Hope this helps. |
Re: newbie finally saying hi
Thanks so much for your advice!!
Looks like R&G might be getting a hunk of change soon lol out of interest, howcome you dont like them? |

Re: newbie finally saying hi
Cheers all!
I will keep my eyes open for some svs about town then :) I have seen a couple of nice silver 1000s around - one curvy, one pointy - not sure if theyre either of you? yep, the bug is mine. its a 71 1200 model. currently needs some tlc as it is being a pain. So are there any decent alternatives to the R&G bungs? any recommendations? |

The R&G design has a few faults, the bung shape and the strength of the bolt are the major two and even with mods they don't fair any better, I have tested and experimented. Don't get me wrong, R&G make great crash bungs but just not for the SV650!!! To make better ones for the SV they will have to go along the designs of JHS and Motosliders but unfortunately that would lead to R&G admitting that there current design is flawed. With the amount of people who have complained so far about them this would leave R&G in an embarrassing situation! However, if you speak to one of the engineers they will tell you the same as I have just. The old JHS ones were the ones to go for, but unfortunately now no longer available so that promotes Motosliders as the number ones to have for the SV650. Avoid any that bolt to the front or rear cylinder mount bolts, absolutely useless design and a waste of money (Motrax's DHM for example), and any which bolt to a Suzuki lower fairing mount bracket (there a lot of these for the Pointy). |
Re: newbie finally saying hi

Re: newbie finally saying hi
Thanks again for your warm welcomes and top advice!
Bit of an update... Got an Evotech tail tidy and a rear seat cover for my birthday a couple weeks ago and have fitted those, then I managed to win some R&G crash bungs on fleabay last week and set to fitting them this weekend - finally i have my lower fairings on. http://cyculpin.com/pics/uploads/photo.jpg Seems to be a little bit louder when riding with the fairings on too which is good. Its un-nervingly quiet compared to the ducati i had before. It still needs a new exhaust to make it a little bit louder..that's next on the shopping list i think :) |

and when the windows of your neighbours house rattle in the frame, you know your onto a winner:smt035 just naroowly missed out on a set of Mivvs for the raptor on ebay..shame :-( |
Re: newbie finally saying hi
Yes mate cost a total of £25 from a breakers and a few hours of my time to do a neat job, problem is its a race can so im paranoid about the police pulling me over. On a bike as shiny and new as yours mate i would be inclined to get a road legal ready made one like the Scorpion, i would if i could spare the readies.

Re: newbie finally saying hi

I missed out by £3 on a scorpion street extreme stubby on ebay the other day. grr. not to worry though something else will come along. usually does :) |
