LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
Im looking to get a 32" to play my Xbox on. I already have a 37" LCD but its the main TV and I cant get on it half the time for the complaints. I want a good telly which is excellent for gaming (good refresh rate and none of the screen blur) but affordable (Under £400 a possibility?)

Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
Dad just got this one;
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX...5829965&sr=8-3 Ok, not for gaming on, but it's a Viera, very good itis too! Pete |
Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
We've just got a 32" Panasonic it was a bit more than £400 though. But I'd deffo go for another Panasonic .

Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
I just got a new LCD for the front room, nothing fancy, 32" and it was 289 quid.
From Novatech, the finish is not amazin, but it seems a great TV, and the remote even seems nice and simple to use. 2 scart, 2 hmdi, 1 HDTV, VGA, svideo, RGB, digital and analog in, and digital out. |
Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
Ive got a Toshiba at the mo, Dads got a Panasonic. Pans tend to be quite a bit more!

Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
Im not actually sure whether Plasma or LCD is the one to go for either...

Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
I always thought LCD was best up to around 50" odd... but i could be talking out my ****.
Go into a shop and have a good mossey round. |
Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
at 32 inch i'd go lcd, also ensure its 1080p not 1080i other than that at least 2 hdmi connections, LG get a good rep for the money.

Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
The novatech one I mentioned is 1080p.

Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
So is the Viera from Amazon.

Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
I'd be interested in this too (just ordered my 360 Elite :D). I'd also like to use the TV concerned as a 'monitor' for my laptop too (ideally with both connected at the same time and switching between them via AV or similar). I'm still undecided as to the size, but if I were to go for a 22" flatscreen monitor with HDMI in, is there any reason why this would not be as good as a TV (other than the screen size) for playing the 360 on? TIA.

Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
plasma will be smoother and has usually better definition in black and greyscale areas but they don't enjoy static images like HUDs in some games and could damage the screen in a long game (over 2 hours).
LCDs are much tougher but tend to refresh slightly slower so can look juddery (though newer ones are much better at this) in 32" everything will be LCD for cost reasons though, that said on a smaller screen the refresh problem is much less noticable. Best value will be the usual LG and Samsung offerings Panasonic. Toshiba and Sony will cost a bit more and in some cases will perform slightly better (not much though) and dont forget some of the premium brands use internals from other companies too. My advice would be Samsung for games, good connectivity, cheapish, look smart and expensive, tend to be reliable. |
Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
I just got me a 1080P 37" LG for £520 from overclockers.co.uk. And it's awesome!!!
You should be able to find a 32" for £400 or thereabout easy on there. |
Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
Or as I said.. the 32" for £289. Finish is cheap... but if its just for the xbox it will more then cope.

1920x1080 is 2073600 pixels. 1366x768 is 1049088 pixels. So your TV is only displaying 50% of the pixels that the xbox is producing. It should still look very good though. I, on the other hand, have a TV that can display 1920x1080 pixels, and a Nintendo Wii that only outputs 720x480 pixels. So I get a really crap picture. |

I wish it just said that... I have 1 million pixels, and yours has 2 million. Nice and easy. |
Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
Ta for the info Wyrdness. I take it that when looking at monitors rather than TVs I should be looking for widescreen aspect ration monitors that either say they support 1920x1080 resolutions or 1080P, as opposed to "HD ready" as a lot seem to claim (presumably they mean 1080i).
|
Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
I was under the impression that 'HD ready' mean they take a HD imput, so could mean they have any resolution, low or high.
1080p and 1080i have the same resolution from what I understand but one means interlaced and one is a progressive scan. The Interlaced scan draws 2 pixels at a time so while your using 2 million pixels it draws 2 at the same time with the same information, where as 1080p will draw each individual pixel, so you get a true 2 million pixel use. |

Most will be able to display a downscaled 1080p signal. Panels with a native 1920x1080 resolution are sometimes called 'Full HD'. Obviously they're more expensive than the 720p panels. For normal TV viewing or gaming, you're unlikely to notice much of a difference. |
Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
Ill be sitting about 6 feet away from the TV. Ive been advised to go for 37" again but im not sure if I can fit it in the space!
Samsung do have a dedicated games mode where I think it boosts the refresh rate. Whats required to run games - anything above 4m/s? I dont want to buy an LCD where I get a lot of motion blur. Its perfect on the Tosh ive got but I dont want to be forking out another £550 to put upstairs. |
Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
60hz should be fine.

Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
Tesco's has some cracking deals on TV's at the mo.

Re: LCD/Plasma for Xbox360 advice
Fancy the Sony Bravia 32v4000 at a shade under £400. Looks good even if it isnt 1080p (not necessary for the 360 really though is it?)
