Got back on today....

Back on a bike for the first time today. Took a test ride on the Kwak Versys in Batley. Nervous as hell once I swung my leg over it and started edging out of the car park. I could feel my both hand shaking. Took a left into the road and rode to the first set of traffic lights. Having to wait in traffic before I could get going but once I passed through the traffic and onto the open road towards Denby Dale, it felt great to be back on. Needless to say, nerves had gone by the time I'd returned. Makes it feel as if I've never been away.

First test ride down, Street Triple and the Shiver next.

Glad to hear you are good to ride mate. :)

Its strange how riding takes the nerves away isnt it.

Take care mate.

:smt035 well done,
it does make you nervy for a while. Even after such a small slide down the road, i still get the heebies when i first set off ( but then I did slide down my street on my head!)
Even better well done for getting on strange bikes for test rides:cool:, I'd be frightened of scratching them or something:(

Good to hear Rich, take it your wrist isn't giving you to much problem now?

Just don't try any blasts at the moment. :smt003
Was going to have a run to Helmsley today, turned around a Clay bank car park..
It wasn't the cold wind.. Not a problem really...
..It was the 'kin ice along the side of the roads and in the dips. Made for some interesting moments a couple of times. :-P

Even towards Guisborough in the open and gritted roads, I had the back twitch big time coming off a roundabout.

No more going hard I think for this year.

Re: Got back on today....

Versys was great at handling, really light and much easier to flick over than the SV was, I mean really easy.
It was the engine I wasnt too sure of, im gonna have a go on a couple of other bikes and come back to the Versys as I still think its the next bike for me.

Matt, you need to get an updated photo so we can see that high level can!

Hah, still haven't put it on to be honest, its just sitting with the normal style link pipe. Cant be bothered faffing about with indicators for now.
Probably will in the summer.

Has the Versys got the same parallel twin as the er-6?
If it has, sorry.. but its such a gay sounding engine, even with aftermarket cans it sounds weird. :-P

rob13 23-11-08 09:46 AM

Re: Got back on today....

yup same, Aside from buying another SV, Id have to step up in CCs to get something to sound as fruity as for me, IL4s dont do it. The parallel feels agricultural at low speeds, much like a single and it was for that reason I wonder whether the test bike is sorted or not. I heard that it was a great engine

Re: Got back on today....

To be honest all an SV needs to improve flick ability is raise the rear a bit.

Glad your back riding Rob,

I rode yesterday and today, my lack or riding lately really has suffered with lines and confidence through corners. Yesterday whilst out I couldn't get anything right.

Now it's GSXR time. :smt077

Only kidding, want a competition, who can buy a bike first, loser buys the other a bear at Assen/other meet point that is mutually acceptable?

I'm pretty sure I won't be buying until after Chrimbo.

rob13 24-11-08 05:46 PM

Re: Got back on today....

Yeah it was Autorama Alex, I dealt with Ashley. Theyre still a bit on the expensive side if buying new (would buy 2nd hand though). Im not convinced about the engine really, totally different to the SV, felt much more agricultural but im not sure if there was something going on with the bike because Ive looked everywhere to see whether anyone mentions the ER6 or Versys as Agricultural and its never come up. Felt rather crude alongside the SV.

rob13 24-11-08 05:47 PM

Re: Got back on today....

Lol Tim, yeah ok you're on hopefully Assen will be the destination!

Going to try the Shiver next I think, before testing the Street Triple.

Singles are now out

Ploppy 24-11-08 06:59 PM

Re: Got back on today....

Welcome back. I had a spill about 6 months ago, took me a while to get the repairs done and so i was a bit nervy when i got back in the saddle.

oooooh let me know how the street triple rides  i was allmost tempted at one point.

Re: Got back on today....

yeah... I managed to screw the tuono out of them so felt ok with the price...

Was it a yellow one livered up with thier details?

If so I had it as a courtasy bike the other week and hated it... cant say it was bad but nothing compared with the tuono..

Im know Im am turnign into Nick here, but do if you can try the tuono... I know a few ppl who bought the shiver and they chopped them straight back in against the tuono as they were less reliable and a bit iffy...

Might be worth a giggle any way!

rob13 25-11-08 04:13 PM

Re: Got back on today....

You are turning into Nick! As ive said, no thou's here at the moment, not least for the extra running/ownership costs.

I rode their black Versys demo. Im going to try the Shiver next (locally) before finishing with the Striple. I still fear that the Striple will blow the other 2 away and Ill be hankering after one of those (being the most expensive)

ThEGr33k 25-11-08 06:01 PM

Re: Got back on today....

There isnt that big a difference in ownership price between a street tripple and a 1000cc Vtwo ;)

But anyway ill leave since I might also turn into Nick :-?

Indeed 60*V twin is where its at. Perfect ballance of power and usable low revs best sounding configuration of engine ever and they are involving. :D

But well at least we know as you say :D

If they made a 650 or 750cc 60degree twin then I'd be interested. No point in a thou though as its more weight and its more money to own and run.

oh I dunno, I was surprised how light the Raptor was when i got it out of the shed for Im Indoors after his hip op. In fact it was a little too light:p maybe a little more weighty higher if that makes sense. Its not much more than the SV to run...well shhhhhhh don't tell Im Indoors but it would be cheaper for me to run it insurance wise:smt003

Naaaa, nice but not as nice :) Ive road both and the 60* runs much smoother at lower RPM's than the more uneven firing 90*'s. Cant go wron either way though tbh :smt040

Another significant step, got myself a new 2 piece set of leathers. HG PSXR Track which are the ones with the free trousers. Really good bit of kit, although these are definitely more saggier arsed than my last set.
