New waterproof leathers
I read about some new waterproof leathers in Bike this month, can't remember who the manufacturers are, the only stuff I can find on the net about it is here http://www.biker247.com/News/10391.asp but don't remember them looking like textiles, just like normal leathers.
Thoughts? Think they'll be up to the job? |

Re: New waterproof leathers
It looks perfect for BMW owners to brag about when they all meet up.
|
Re: New waterproof leathers
hein gericke are going to do gore tex leathers they should be out in february
|
Re: New waterproof leathers
Hmm might be worth considering in a few years time when they might actually be at an almost affordable price.
|
Re: New waterproof leathers
Yeah, if they come down to a sane price it'll be daft for road riders not to get them I reckon, unless they want to hang around with Lozzo and brag about how wet they are and making fun of the bone dry BMW riders  But right now they're just too spendy. Then again, Rukka stuff is always spendy even when it's not doing anything interesting.

Re: New waterproof leathers
I'll stick to my textile kit for now. Leathers are fine when it's warm and sunny but if the weather's ropey then decent goretex textile kit is so much more practical.

Re: New waterproof leathers
if the waterproof leathers come down in price a lot i'd definitely be interested be great only having one set of gear instead of a pile of stuff all over the place.
|
Re: New waterproof leathers
and I should think people would be happy not to have to go through the whole fiasco of getting in and out of one piece waterproofs :-D

I'll stick to my second-hand Belstaffs hehe |
Re: New waterproof leathers
hein gericke are going to do them for £1200 for the whole suit but they do 0% finance over 12 months.
|
Re: New waterproof leathers
That's still an extortionate amount. You could get a very good set of leathers, a very good set of textiles and a very good set of waterproofs for that amount of money!!
|
Re: New waterproof leathers
It's got a Rukka badge on it, of course it's extortionately overpriced for what it is.

Re: New waterproof leathers
Is Rukka stuff actually good? Or just expensive?
|
Re: New waterproof leathers
Average to better than most, but horribly expensive. I would buy a top of the range Gericke suit or Halvarssons instead

Re: New waterproof leathers
The HG Cruise GTX I bought cheap a couple of months ago is absolutely brilliant. I wouldn't have paid 600 quid for it but at 350 it was a steal.

Re: New waterproof leathers
I really like my Rukka trousers, they're well made and very comfy, they've lasted a couple of years of daily use with no sign of tiredness, and they do give the impression of protection- survived a minor slide the other week perfectly. Their armour coverage is extremely good too, and because the knee armour is shaped around the knee it tends to stay in place, not like the usual flat knox stuff.
But I didn't pay full price (closing down sale) and they were still bloody expensive. What swayed me towards them over cheaper brands is that they offer a repairs service, so the sort of mild crash damage that can write off most textiles- rips on the knees, frinstance, which is what killed my Teknics- can sometimes be repaired good as new. But are they worth it at full price? Nah  |
