Kevlar Jeans

Hi

I am not a leather person, so was looking for clothes that look as normal as 'heaven forbid' that I might have got the bus/car to wherever I was going.

What are Kevlar Jeans like?? any body got them, love them/loathe them... if not Kevlar anything else out there that looks like normal day to day wear but still offers protection etc.

Thanks[-o<

They're good light protection but not quite leather.

On a more practical note, forgoing Leathers the only other option would be proper textiles with full fitted armour, although anything that looked "normal" won't be effective at the armour will move in the even of an off, so you'll need straps to hold it in place and they don't look "normal".

However, in the good weather and for fairly relaxed riding the Kevlar jeans option are better than regular jeans and have the pockets (in some) to house armour.

Draggin
Hood
RS
Red Route
Voto
Hardas
Bulletproof*

Are just some of the makes available, each have their own merits and range from £50 to about £100 (normally the armour is extra) generally the style is either regular jeans look or some sort of camo/cargo pants type, check for double stitching on the seams and general construction, but most are fine.

I will make the point like all motorbike gear, Function should far out weight form, once this stuff has saved an arm, leg or even your life, you'll not want it any other way.

* it's a brand name, don't let anyone shoot you to prove a point........;)

Cheers Mark.

I have Hood jeans, love em.

In the summer unless going for a 'burn' it'll be the trouser of choice.

Re: Kevlar Jeans

may I just say I women in leather look great, and I appreciate the merit of leather, but I intend to own some leathers but being new to the biking thing was also looking for something a bit more day wear.

I currently intend to be a fair weather biker, riding when its bright and sunny, now this may all change as I never expected to want to ride a bike
let alone own one and start on forums about them so who knows I could end up completely addicted and at all the shows etc.

Thanks so far for the responses, and if you could pass on the motivational pics that would be great :)

Re: Kevlar Jeans

Got a pair of Red Route jeans..
Double up as jeans for working on the bike, when its too hot for leather/textiles and commuting jeans..

£90, with armour on the knees included..
Extra padding on my rear, knees and the side of my thighs..
Also zipz at the bottom to fit over bigger boots.
Wash well also :)
Highly recommended.

Re: Kevlar Jeans

If you are just fairweathering it and only going out for bikefilled blasts (i.e not using it to nip to the shops or drop into work) leathers would be my undisputable choice.

Re: Kevlar Jeans

I've worn leathers for just 5 minute trips out before....and aren't I glad I have.

I have Draggin jeans. I only wear them as a quick thing if I'm away to the shops ect. If its a planned or propper ride, I would generally go for my full kit

Re: Kevlar Jeans

as stated in one of the links, I rode all the way to Bordeaux (well an hour higher up)from HX in a pair of Draggins, and can say.....it was way too hot for a set of leathers, and I'd trust them anyway. I know how strong they are...and as said before in some, you can put armour in them

I'm sat here at work atm in my Draggin jeans. I wear them for my commute, and they are easily comfy enough to leave on all day.

I think you will find that in that context the leathers would be better..............

+1 on the Draggin jeans, a lot cooler than me leathers in the summer, and feel like they offer decent protection too.

this is the point, what is "decent", this type of wear will always be a compromise, don't get me wrong I to have a couple of pairs and as said they are better than just plain jeans, however the Kevlar is only friction protection, and the Knee armour stands more than a fare chance of just being pushed out the way, much as the summer "mesh" type jackets are really only impact protection and a compromise on the friction front, whenever I use mine my riding is restricted and riding margins that much greater because of it, It's everyone’s own choice, but don't for one moment believe they offer the same level of protection, they are an addition to protective gear rather than a replacement IMO.

Leathers are restrictive, hot / cold, not that waterproof and expensive, but a well fitting set will give you the best protection you can get, and lets face it don't you want the best ?

 (gets down ..........;) )

Cheers Mark
