Painful Morning.

Got about a mile to work and realised that for the second time in a week I had a problem with my rear tyre - so hop off, have a look and sure enough theres another bit of shrapnel in there.

So head off to Essential Rubber - I have to say 2-up with a rapidly flattening rear tyre is not fun through London Rush Hour traffic.

So £245 later my Zed is sporting a new pair of Dunlop Roadsmarts and a new set of rear brake pads.

So drop Vixis off at work and head to work myself, which is where the physical rather than finiancial pain comes in, a pidgeon eating some scraps at Smithfields Market decided to head-butt me.

Fortunately it was just a glancing blow at lowish speeds, so no dead pidgeon and no me covered in cack.

feckin hell. Get some ultraseal! £20 and no stress is much easier than £240.
Are pidgeons a real pain for bikers or something? I've only ever hit one in thousands of miles in the car but bikers always seem to be hitting the things. I saw an episode of traffic cops where a pheasant smashed through a guys visor at about 50mph and made a mess of his face (he also crashed the bike pretty bad).

TBH the tyres were on their way out - and ultraseal is best avoided - I could have gone for the £20 mushroom repair option if it had been too painful - but as both tyres were on the wear markers.......

Blimey doesn't sound like it was your morning at all. Least you didn't get pigeon guts all over your leathers and visor - now that would have been a pain to wash off

When I get a puncture (which has never happened in all my years of riding - touch wood) I want to know about it. I'd rather I had a tyre go down slowly and gradually let me know it's happened than be blissfully unaware and risk a major accident because the tyre might let go suddenly when the puncture sealing fails.

For that reason I'll never put a puncture sealant in my tyres.

I consider it good luck to get a puncture when the tyre is "down on its wear marker"
Last one I had was on a tyre that had only done 300 miles

Re: Painful Morning.

Well I got the last puncture repaired last week, cos I was hoping it would last till the end of next month.

However when I get a second puncture within a week, I take that as a hint to get the tyre off the bike.

Superstition I know, but I tend to follow my feelings these days......

was that on a brand new tyre? cause if so thats stinky bad luck :-(

Nah the puncture last week (6" philips head screw) got repaired.

This one - looked like the head of a nail, got the replacement treatment.
